Atem apparently wasn't quick enough.

When Atem turned around, Yugi was already shot. Atem was somehow lucky enough to be avoid being hit.

"YUGI!!" He cried before exiting the house. He quickly ran into a forest nearby, where the shooter couldn't see them, and laid him down. Blood spilled out of him fast. Some blood stained Atem's clothes.

"Yugi... No, no, no, no..." Atem began to panic and his eyes began to swell of tears.

"I have to call 911...!" He mumbled as he whipped out his phone. He began to tremble into the phone.

Later, the ambulance and police showed up. The police marched up to the door, and busted in.

They looked around all over the house, but the man in black was nowhere to be seen. Not even a hint of them was there. All there was left behind was pools of blood. The ambulance filled lots of teens in the vehicle and drove off with them. Including Yugi.

Atem cried in his palms of the thought of his friends, Yugi, Joey, and even Téa being sent away to the hospital.

He immediately called his mother to pick him up. She later came in like hot cakes. She parked the car nearby the house and ran out of the car calling out for Atem.

"Atem?! Atem, my baby, where are you?! Oh sweet lord!" She cried out pacing. Atem came out of the bushes looking less alive then ever.

"Atem! Oh my goodness! I was so worried!" She braced Atem in her arms and kissed his forehead. "Are you okay, sweetie?" Atem looked up her with an blank expression.

"I guess."

"Oh thank god! Let's- let's get you home quickly!" She yelped, scooting Atem towards her car.

They both got in the car and drove off towards home. Atem's mother turned towards her depressed son, and took a deep breath.

"You wanna talk about it...?"

"....." His eyes began to fill with tears to the point he couldn't see.

"It's okay, you can let it out."

Atem began to cry, sob, scream. He even slammed his fists on the dash. He wished his father were back from his trip, he wished for safety. But most of all, he wished for Yugi to be safe.

"Why them?! Why not me?!" He sobbed into his hands. "Damn it!"

Later, they arrived at home. Atem stormed upstairs and slammed his door so hard it was on the verge of breaking. Atem's mother was at the bottom of stairs and stared at her boy's room. Worried.
Atem sat on the edge of his bed, staring at his TV screen, playing every video game, watching every movie and show, and stared into the abyss of losing Yugi.

"Why..." He softly whispered before drifting off to sleep.

~The next day~

Atem was woken up in the presence of his mother, greeting him. He was a bit dizzy and sat up slowly.

"Hi, sweetie. Sorry to wake you up but... do you want to visit the hospital?"
She spoke softly. Atem was a bit confused but soon realized.

"Mhm..." He drifted, tired. His mother smiled.

"C'mon, get dressed."

Atem got up when she exited the room and rubbed his eye. He put on his casual outfit. Golden wrist and shoulder bands, belts everywhere, leather pants, chains, and a black tank top.

He came downstairs excited but also dreading it all. Seeing Yugi there. In a hospital bed. Not awake. He shook his head and made some toast with jam on it. He dashed out the door to his mother's car and drove off.

When they arrived, doctors and nurses were running around like maniacs. The front desk lady greeted the two.

"Hello! How may I help you?" She asked with one of those plastered-on smiles. Atem's mother replied also with a fake smile.

"Hello, we are looking here to visit a patient, is visiting time still open?"

"Absolutely! We've got about an hour left so you better hurry up! Who are you looking to visit?" She asked while she typed something on her computer.

"We're here for Yugi Muto."

"Of course! Go right ahead. Room D." She grinned as she handed a key. Atem's mother took the key and passed it on to Atem. Atem's eyes shimmered as he sprinted towards the room. When he arrived, he jiggled the key inside the door. Then, it opened.
His eyes shifted to Yugi laying there, on the bed. He was masked up and hooked to several machines. Atem quivered as he shuffled his way over to him. The nurse blinked and smiled.

"I see you want some alone time. 1 Hour, okay?" She spoke softly. Atem looked back and nodded as she exited the room. Atem turned his head back to Yugi and stared at him in agony.

"Yugi..." He choked. He glared at his friend who appeared to be resting peacefully.

"It's all my fault." He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to hide the pain.

~20 minutes later~
Atem had been sitting in the dark clover chair, quivering. When suddenly, felt movement brush upon his hand. He perked up.

"Yugi...?" His eyes widened. And there he was, Yugi slowly awakening.

"A...Atem? Is that you...?" He closed his eyes, huffing. Atem couldn't help but spread a huge smile across his face.

"Yugi! You're alive...!" He cried, diving in for a hug across his hospital bed.

"Atem?" Yugi blinked, bewildered. But soon hugged him back.

"I'm sorry... this is all my fault." He sighed, breaking the hug.

"Atem, y-you have nothing to be sorry for. You saved my life." Yugi smiled weakly.

"Maybe."

"And if you hadn't tried to drag me out of the house like that, I would've been dead. R-Right?"

"Yes, b-"

"No buts. I can't thank you enough for what you've done... You're a true f-friend." He whispered softly.

"Heh. No problem." Atem answered with an relaxed voice. But something felt wrong to Atem, like he was missing something. He began to feel a bit disappointed in a way.

"Everything okay, A-Atem?" Yugi perked up, worried.

"Oh yeah, it's all good."

"Oh, okay." Yugi replied. Afterwards, it felt a little hot in the room, with tension. Suddenly, the nurse came in with a huge smile spread across her face.

"Well! It looks like visiting hours are over! You can come back tomorrow between 5pm-6pm. Thank you!" She added. Atem looked at her with pleading eyes.

"Just 5 more minutes...?" He grinned.

"Sorry, rules are rules!" She sighed. Atem looked back at Yugi.

"I'll be back tomorrow... Okay?" He smiled looking into his amethyst eyes.

"O-Okay!" He smiled softly. Atem kept smiling as he walked out the exit door.

'I can't wait for tomorrow.'
