"I-I can't believe I was such an idiot... Why did I fall for him." Yugi mumbled as he dug his head into his knees.
He felt like he ran forever but he was found nearby a couple of cement steps and a fence. Sometimes, now Yugi wished he never found friends. Instead of being in the middle of a drama fest, he much preferred being at the back of class, making art. Never he had thought he would get into something like this.'What if I never met Atem? Would things had been different?' Yugi thought, gazing into the night sky.
"Yugi? Is that you?" Atem's voice peaked out from behind Yugi.
"What are you doing here..." Yugi sighed as he lifted his head from his knees.
"I know you might want alone time right now, and I get that. But I want to make things right before summer vacation." Atem stated as he sat down next to Yugi on the steps.
"..."
"Hey, talk to me."
Crickets chirped in the distance while the water from the mini river nearby ran down the trail.
"W-Why should I. You broke our promise. Y-You said you'd never lie to me. Turns out..."
"I know."
"Heh. T-This is why I never go to parties. Let alone make friends. Always some shit that happens... Don't you think this is all a little crazy? All this middle school type drama for nothing. First, the gun shot, and now this."
"It's not nothing..." Atem spoke softly.
Chirp.
Chirp.
"I'd rather just be the loner kid again. Friendship sucks."
"Yugi..."
"No, no. No need to apologize. I-I get now I should have never trusted you." Yugi snarled as tears stung his eyes.
"I never meant to hurt anyone. I'm sorry." Atem sighed.
"Don't tell that to me! Tell that to everyone else!" Yugi blurted.
"..."
"Listen, the reason I've been acting so angry lately is that... well... ever since I was born, everything was basically handed to me on a silver platter. I never knew what it was like to be disciplined. And I've never been told 'no'. My father, who had left us, always used to tell me I should always lash out my anger on the things that upset me. Which was pretty bad parenting, huh?" Atem chuckled softly.
"Yeah, sure."
"But anyways, I know that's wrong. But for some reason sometimes the voice in my head to take it out on other people. But I just... I-I can't get rid of the voice..." Atem winced.
"...?" Yugi perked up.
"The point is, I never mean to hurt anyone. I don't want anyone to die. I really don't. And I'm so sorry if I hurt you as well. I just can't control it."
"Oh, I didn't know. S-Sorry..."
"You don't need to be sorry. It's my fault." Atem looked down.
"..."
"How can you be so sure?" Yugi said.
"What do you mean?"
"H-How can I trust you again."
"Because I l-"
"?"
"Nevermind." Atem mumbled.
Chirp.
Chirp.
"Yugi." Atem glared directly towards him.
"What now."
"I... I have something to say."
"J-Just say it. I've heard everything."
"It's not like that. I want you to trust me again because well... I respect our friendship but..."
"B-But what...?" Yugi sighed.
"I think I have feelings for you." Atem blurted out.
"H-Huh?" Yugi's cheeks became a shade of pink.
"Sorry, just forget I said anything." Atem turned back.
"W-Wait no! You have... feelings for me?" Yugi's amethyst eyes glimmered in the moonlight.
"I do." Atem smiled gently.
"I-I d-do too." Yugi stuttered, blushing like crazy.
"Really?" Atem looked Yugi in the eyes. Yugi nodded his head frantically.
"Mhm....!!"
"Heh." Atem chuckled softly. Yugi looked down and smiled. Atem wrapped his arm around Yugi's shoulder and slowly leaned in and locked his lips with Yugi's. Yugi's face became a fire truck again. But in a good way this time. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the time with Atem. He pulled away from Yugi and looked into his dazzling eyes.
"Did anyone tell you that you have beautiful eyes?" Atem smirked as he brushed Yugi's golden bangs out of his face.
"N-Now someone did!" Yugi chuckled as he leaned his forehead on Atem's. The two laughed.
"Man, I-I can't believe someone like you would ever l-love me."
"Yugi, I loved you ever since we became friends. I wanted to tell you right away but... I didn't know how you would react. You already had enough on your mind, anyways. Plus, it would've been too early. You're amazing, kind, beautiful, all of the above. And you're all mine now... I'm the lucky one." Atem cupped Yugi's cheek gently.
"Aw, c'mon... I-I'm not all THAT great." Yugi giggled.
"It's true." Atem hummed.
"T-Thanks, Atem." Yugi pulled Atem into a hug.
"Anything for you." Atem smiled against Yugi as he hugged tightly back.
All stars in the sky are competing to be a shining one. Sometimes they don't realize who's doing all the work. Maybe it's not so bad to be the boy at the back of class.
