Weeks have gone by, but Atem still continues to visit Yugi after all. He did promise to him. Even if it means skipping out on Football and Basketball practice.
"Hey, Yugi." Atem pulled up a cushion couch next to Yugi's bed.
"Atem... I-Is that you...?" Yugi's eyes squinted.
"Yeah. How'd your surgery go?"
"Pretty well... th-though I had a nervous breakdown at the beginning. I thought I'd might never wake up again..." Yugi sighed, sitting up.
"Wait, Yug-"
"OW!! My stomach...!!" Yugi yelled, clutching his stomach.
"It's fine, just lay back down." Atem carefully grabbed Yugi's hands, slowly putting him back down. "...See?"
"T-Thanks..." Yugi looked away.
"Anyways, so sorry I couldn't help you. The nurses wanted me gone and-"
"No, no. It's fine..." Yugi smiled weakly.
Atem glared at him, taking upon every detail.
His golden bangs, he always brushed them out of his face.
His big, round amethyst eyes. Quite a rare pair.
His smile. Atem loved to make him smile.
"Atem...?" Yugi asked, waving his hand slowly. "Hello? Anyone in there?"
"Huh?" Atem blinked as he snapped out of his imagination. Yugi stared at him and bursted out laughing.
"What's so funny?" Atem pouted.
"S-Sorry, Atem! I just- I never seen you space out b-before!" Yugi giggled as he wiped a tear.
"Heh." Atem smirked.
"Ah... so anyways, how has everything been for y-you? I know I ask this a lot b-but your importance matters too!" Yugi looked at Atem, brushing his bangs out of his eyes.
"Well, it's been pretty lonely without you at school."
"But I thought you were popular? You still have people, right?"
"I do. But don't you think it doesn't matter how many friends you have, but it's the ones that count. The ones who care about your well-being. Man, I don't have a lot of those. That's why it's lonely."
"I-I guess you have a point..." Yugi gushed, looking down.
"See? You're a good friend, always have. I can't believe you're shy... you seem like an awesome person, Yugi. It doesn't matter how many people knock you down. You just gotta get back up." He admired.
"T-Thanks, Atem." He looked up at him.
"No problem. By the way, what do you think school for you will look like in a few weeks?" Atem asked.
"Hmm, I'm not sure. Maybe ten times more scary?" Yugi sarcastically added.
"C'mon, it wouldn't be that bad! Plus, you got me!" Atem winked, Yugi felt his cheeks warm up.
"All the g-girls would just flirt with y-you, anyways!" Yugi huffed.
"So? I think I know how to get rid of one or two groups of fangirls." Atem pleaded. "All you have to do is show them a ticket to a boy band concert!"
"Hahaha!" Yugi couldn't contain his laughter. Atem glared but cracked a smile. Suddenly, a nurse walked in with a clipboard.
"Yugi Muto, right? I'm afraid visiting times are over." She announced.
"Aw, b-bye Atem." Yugi frowned.
"See you later." Atem waved, leaving the room.
"Oh, yes! In a few weeks, you can return to school! We'll do a few checkups but other than that, you're good to go! It'll just take a bit of time to adjust to your stomach." She smiled.
"R-Really?! That's awesome! T-Thank you so much!!" Yugi exclaimed, he was so excited to finally see Atem at school again. Not so much about going back to school. Considering how much homework he'd have to do.
~A few weeks later...~
All in science class, Atem couldn't stop how much he missed Yugi being at school. He couldn't focus on his studies, even his friends.
"Hey! Aren't you gonna do any of the work?!" Atem's lab partner, Tristen, gruffed.
"Oh, yeah. Sorry man." He chuckled, reaching over the acid.
"Atem!! That's no-"
Atem accidentally spilled hydrofluoric acid all over the table without looking.
"Oh goodness gracious!" The teacher called out.
"Aw shit!" Atem shouted.
"Atem! We do not use that kind of language in this school." The teacher glared at Atem with anger.
"S-Sorry, Mrs. William!" Atem covered his mouth, embarrassed.
"Thank you. Now quickly get a paper towel and wipe that up before it burns through the table!!" She roared. Atem nodded his head frantically and rushed over to where the paper towels were. He felt flushed more then ever. Everyone looked at him with a blank stare.
"Sorry..." He sighed as he wiped the acid up.
~End of day~
At 5pm, Yugi was so excited and he couldn't wait to tell Atem the great news he was gonna be released tomorrow. Today, Yugi was prescribed antibiotics. They tasted icky, but he knew it it would help.
"Hey, Yugi." Atem smiled walking through the doorway.
"Atem!" He exclaimed with joy.
"You seem happy." He sat on the a chair.
"Y-Yeah! I'm getting released today! I'll be back at school on Monday!"
"Aw, damn! I forgot!" Atem kicked himself.
"Don't worry. It's not your f-fault! M-My Grandpa is picking me up today... You need a ride?" Yugi glimmered.
"Nah, I'll find a way home."
"Y-You sure...?"
"Yup."
"Alrighty..."
Suddenly, Yugi's Grandfather came charging through the room.
"Yugi! How'd your surgery go?! I signed you out, c'mon! Let's get outta here!" Grandpa fumbled his words. Yugi shyly looked towards Atem.
"Well, see you tomorrow..."
"Yeah, see you." He smirked.
"See you..."
"C'mon! You'll see Atem tomorrow. For now, let's go home."
"Alright..." Yugi whined. Nurses came into the room and helped him up slowly from the bed. Yugi winced in pain.
"I miss you, already." Atem whispered under his breath.
