Finally, Saturday rolled around. I was sitting on the couch, reading a book and the phone rang. I leaped up from the couch and picked it up.
"Hello?" I asked.
"H--hey," Ponyboy said from the other line.
A smile immediately spread across my face. "Hey, Ponyboy. What's up?"
"Uh... I just--wanted to see if you wanted to hang out today... or something?" He stammered.
"Sure!" I exclaimed, "do you want me to come over, and we can catch a movie or something?"
"Yeah--that would be great!" He said, nervously.
"Alright, I'll be over in a few minutes," I assured him.
I walked to my room and changed into a pair of shorts. I walked out the door and skipped down the street. I finally arrived at the Curtis house, and I walked in. As soon as I opened the door, everyone stopped talking and looked over at me. The room was silent, which was pretty much the first time I'd ever heard the house quiet.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Nothing," they all said, suspiciously.
"Uh... okay," I said.
"Whatcha doin' here, Jen?" Darry asked, walking into the room. He was tucking his shirt into his pants, getting ready for work. He goes in later on Saturdays, and is off on Sundays. I hang out here a lot, so I'm starting to understand everyone's schedules.
"Uh... Pony invited me. We're going to catch a movie," I told him.
"Oh okay. You kids have fun, I'll be at work," Darry called, walking out.
"Bye!"
"Uh... do you want to go now?" Ponyboy asked, awkwardly.
I looked up and noticed that everyone was still staring at me. I looked at them, weirdly. "Uh, yeah sure..." I mumbled.
Ponyboy walked over to me and we strolled outside.
"What was all that about?" I asked him.
"All what?"
"Uh... everyone staring at me?" I asked, giggling.
"Oh... that. Um, I don't know... they're kind of weird about us hanging out," Pony admitted.
"Oh, um, okay?" I said, shrugging. I giggled a little bit about Pony being so awkward.
We finally got to the movie theatre, after a long and awkward walk there. It had never really been awkward between me and Pony, but lately it had been getting a little bit weird. We found our seats and sat next to each other. We saw some stupid movie, but I wasn't really paying attention. I was more thinking about Ponyboy. Pony seemed really nervous the whole time, and I don't really know why. I mean, we hang out like this all the time, why is he so weird about it now?
About half way through the movie, Ponyboy put his arm around me, comfortably. He seemed nervous about it, but I leaned my head on his shoulder, to try to hint that I liked it.
Ponyboy POV:
Loud sounds came from the movie, startling me a little. I wasn't really paying attention to the movie, I was mostly thinking about Jennifer. I really wanted to put my arm around her, but I was too nervous. Soda could do it, why couldn't I? Whatever, I'm going to do it.
My arm reached out, like it had a mind of it's own and put it around Jennifer's shoulder. I shivered a little, scared I had just embarrassed myself. But, she rested her head on my shoulder, so I assumed she liked it. I had that weird feeling in my stomach again, but this time it was even more.
