"Hey!" I heard a familiar shout from behind me.

I was walking home from the Curtis' house, and I was in a great mood because Ponyboy officially asked me to be his girlfriend.

I whipped around to see Sodapop running after me. I slowed down, and he finally caught up to me.

"Hey," I muttered, laughing.

"So you two are official?" He asked, smirking.

"Did you really just run all the way here to ask me that?" I giggled.

"No. I'm heading over to DX," he answered.

"Oh."

"So what happened?" He asked, intrigued.

"Uh, well... he gave me a poem," I told him.

"A poem? Gosh, he really needs help with this romantic stuff," Soda joked, "what did it say?"

"Here. I have it," I said, pulling the paper out of my pocket.

"Of course you do," Soda teased, rolling his eyes.

"And what is that supposed to mean?" I asked him.

"You are soooo in love with my brother. You keep dumb poems from him in your pockets."

"It's not dumb, I like it," I argued, shoving the paper into his hands.

He accepted the paper and unfolded it. His eyes scanned the document, and he let out a huge laugh.

"What is so funny?"

"Even I could write a better poem than this."

"Okay," I said, "prove it."

"Oh okay, I will. Uh... roses are red, violets are blue..." he said, "uh, what's the next part?"

"Oh my gosh..." I mumbled, laughing.

"It's still better than this," he said, handing me back the paper.

"Shut up," I muttered, giggling. I took back the paper, folding it and putting it in my pocket again.

Sodapop walked back to DX and I walked home by myself. I kicked some rocks along the way, making dust clouds.

"Hey pretty lady," I heard behind me. Assuming it was someone in the gang, I whipped around, laughing.

"Shut your--" then I realized. It wasn't someone in the gang. It wasn't a Greaser at all. It was a Soc.
