Stupid Socs

I came face-to-face with a tall Soc that I had never seen before. I might've seen him around school, but who knows, they all look the same to me.

The boy had short, brown hair and was had the body shape of a stick. He was tall and had really bad posture, he was all slouched over.

Suddenly, a car rolls around; a Mustang. A few guys get out of it and start walking towards me.

"What'd you say to me, you ol' broad?" The main boy asked me.

"Oh--nothing... I thought you were someone else--my friend," I stammered. I started to back up, nervously, but the guys kept following me.

The boy smirked at me. "What's a pretty broad like you doin' hangin' around these streets by yourself, huh?"

"Uh--I'm just walking home. Look, I--I don't want any trouble."

"Trouble? Who said anything about trouble?"

"Well--I'm sorry--I just... can you please leave me alone?" I was frightened. My heart was beating so fast, and I really wanted to sprint away. But, I was scared they would catch up to me and hurt me.

"Leave you alone?"

"When we're done with you," another boy piped up.

The main guy laughed.

I swallowed hard, and I started breathing even heavier. The boys walked over to me and I started to back up more. I reached for my switch blade to protect me, but then I remembered. I forgot my blade at the Curtis' house. I was playing a game with the boys, and I left it on the table. Shoot, the one time I need it most.

The main guy walked up to me. "So, how is a girl as pretty as you a greaser?"

"Uh--well, I dunno--I don't really have money, I guess..."

"Hm, well then we have no choice but to do this."

He punched me right in the gut, and I fell over backwards. I landed on my back and another guy leapt on top of me. He landed on my stomach, knocking the wind out of me. I gained it back, but I was still having trouble breathing.

He started punching me in the face, repeatedly. I tried to shove him off, but he was really heavy. Another boy came from behind him and grabbed a switch blade. The guy punching me grabbed it, and while he was distracted I pushed him off of me. I stood up but someone grabbed me from behind. He pulled me onto the ground and I felt a bunch of sharp rocks stabbing into my back. But, that wasn't the pain I was focused on.

My right eye was throbbing, and I was still trying to get air back into my system. The guy sitting on me knocked the wind out of me. My gut still hurt really bad, from getting punched in the beginning. I could feel blood dripping everywhere.

A boy yanked my hair, and I yelped. A boy grabbed a switch blade and drew a slit down my arm. I screamed in pain, and he shoved a handkerchief in my mouth. I still tried to scream, but I couldn't. It was blocking my air, and I was starting to get lightheaded.

Suddenly, they all stopped beating me up. They all ran and hopped into their car. I heard someone yelling at them, but I couldn't tell who it was. I closed my eyes, trying to make the pain go away. I winced at the pain of my arm, but I still couldn't scream because of the cloth in my mouth. I tried my best to spit out the handkerchief, but it didn't work.

"Hey, kid, are you okay?" I heard. I opened my eyes and saw Dally running towards me. He crouched down next to me, and yanked the handkerchief out of my mouth. He tossed it on the ground and looked at my arm. "Jesus Christ," he mumbled under his breath.

"Thanks," I squeaked. I tried my best to speak, but I was still trying to breathe.

"What the hell happened?" He grabbed the back of my head, and helped me sit up. I glanced down at my arm that was gushing blood. I grimaced at the sight of my own blood pouring out onto the ground.

"I was walking home from the Curtis house," I answered.

"Alone?" He snapped.

I nodded, slightly.

"What have I told you about that?"

"I'm sorry. My house isn't that far away."

"I don't care." He grabbed the handkerchief from the ground and started to wipe off my arm. I flinched when the cloth touched my arm. "God, you look awful."

"Gee, thanks," I said, sarcastically.

"You're already starting to get a black eye. It's gonna make you look tuff," he told me.

"It's gonna make me look stupid."

"You already look stupid."

"Shut up," I said, rolling my eyes.

My arm hurt the most, there was blood still gushing out. My eye was still throbbing, and I could feel blood dripping from my face, too. I didn't want to complain about this, because I would look like a baby in front of Dallas. I mean, he'd had much worse things happen to him before.

"Here, let's get you to the Curtis house." He picked me up bridal-style and walked me back to the Curtis house.

"Why are you being so nice to me?" I asked as he picked me up.

"Look at you."

I shook my head and he walked me back. It wasn't that far, I hadn't made it too far. He opened the door, and we walked in. Only Darry was in the living room. I think everyone else was in the backyard.

"Oh my God, what happened?" Darry shouted as soon as he saw me.

"Socs," I answered.

"You were walking alone?" He snapped.

"Yes," I whispered.

"Well, did you take a blade?"

"I forgot it."

"God, you don't think either!"

"Gosh, Darry. Lighten up, the kid got beat up for God sake," Dally snapped.

Darry ran to the bathroom and came back with a first-aid-kit. He cleaned up my cut on my arm, pouring peroxide on it and wiping it up. It stung for a while, but after he bandaged it, it felt a little bit better.

Then, the boys came piling into the room.

"Woah, what happened?" Two-Bit exclaimed.

"Some Socs beat me up," I responded.

The boys came running up to me, and made sure I was okay.

"Was it Bob?" Steve asked.

"Um, no?"

The only person that wasn't there was Ponyboy.
