Jeongguk
"Do you believe in destiny?" Minji asks, tracing my jaw as he lies beside me in the hospital bed.
I contemplate. "Like that some things are just meant to happen? Things being predetermined?"
His hazel eyes look me in the eyes. "Yes, exactly that."
The thought makes me frown. "Well, wouldn't that mean that I was meant to have heart problems and need a new one? That I was meant to not have a normal life?"
Minji presses his lips to my temple. "Or it could mean that we were meant to meet. That someone so extraordinary wasn't meant for a normal life. That we're meant to be."
My cheeks warm up and I look at the sixteen year-old in awe and he giggles, pressing his lips to mine in a sweet kiss. He plays with my brown hair, his forehead leaning against mine once we break away.
"I think we're meant to be, if that means anything," I whisper. "But it is interesting. Like, what if there's a multiverse? Where we have a normal life together, married with kids?"
The brunet grins. "A universe where I'm older than you."
"A universe where I can take you places."
"A universe where we're idols."
We both laugh at the last one.
"Yeah, like that'd be a thing," I say, wiping my eyes. "But it is cool to think about it, you know? If there was a world where magic is real, yet we're still together. Where with the snap of a finger, I could make you or take you anywhere you want."
Minji shakes his head. "Jeongguk, I would just want you."
I blush at his shamelessness. "Yeah, at the end of the day, all I really want is you, Minji."

Seoul, South Korea - 2015
I look around my hospital room, fiddling with my relationship bracelet. It's been a while since I've come to after my surgery. Considering I'm alive, I would call it a success, yet the tone is dark and brooding.
"Are there still complications?" I ask my doctor since my parents haven't spoken a word.
They shake their head. "Well, not exactly. You took to the heart very well. Almost like it was the one you were meant to be born with."
"Then why does it look like someone just died?"
The doctor bites their lip. "Well, in order for you to get a heart, someone did have to die."
"Yeah, I know that. You don't need to tell me that." I frown.
"Usually, we aren't as rushed with things like this. The victim was a John Doe, killed in a car accident where there were three victims: two adults and one adolescent. He was a perfect match, so we rushed things. It was a little unorthodox, but it worked."
The tense atmosphere makes me squirm and I end up snapping the thread holding my bracelet together and I curse, quickly gathering the beads as the older adults all look between each other.
"Jeongguk," my doctor says.
"What?" I ask, having gathered all the beads, silently chuckling at the anagram made from Minji's name.
Jimin. Cute.
"Jeon Jeongguk, pay attention while your doctor talks to you," my father snaps.
I wince due to his sharp tone and look at the doctor. "S-Sorry."
They smile bittersweetly. "Upon further investigation, the licenses of everyone were found and since they were all labeled organ donors, you could have the heart. The thing is... that when your nurse saw John Doe's real name, she fainted."
My eyes widen. "Do I have her family member's heart?!"
"No, please stay calm after your surgery. Maybe I shouldn't tell you."
"Tell me." I narrow my eyes. "What is it?"
"The name of your donor... was Park Minji."
Author's Note: I feel like everyone saw that coming. Lmao
