Chapter 33

"Wait, so you really are my... uncle?" I said, still coming to terms with the news.

It was the next morning after Hermione had figured it all out. I was still shocked, but she had convinced me to confirm with Snape.

"Yes," he answered bluntly. All of it began to make sense. Snape had always paid extra attention to Cedric and me. In fact, Cedric had mentioned him, even helping him during the tournament. How had I never noticed? He gave me extra advice on potions and often provided me with books. "Layla, you must be careful!" He suddenly warned me, "your parents... They- They have chosen to be apart of some dangerous business." No... What is he talking about?

"W-What do you mean?"

"Take care of your brothers... And- Draco he needs you, even if he may deny it." What's happening? Is he warning me? Something is coming.

"What's gonna happen, Snape?" I look at him. His stone exterior faltered for a moment.

"Firstly, you can call me Severus. And Layla, I can't even say for myself what's coming, but please be prepared."

I had to keep them safe. I wasn't going to lose anyone. Not Snape, Not Cormac or Charlie, Not Eleanor, Not Daniel and not Draco, especially not Draco.

I will hold on till the very last minute.

I had never looked at someone with such admiration. My very niece sat in front of me. I wasn't sure how she had made it through the tournament. After all, she had lost her brother. But this girl was stronger than most. She had more will than many her age. She still sits here, protecting everyone she loves and even those she doesn't. How could anyone like this be related to me? A death eater.

I couldn't help but soften around her. She was all I have left.

I will hold on till the very last minute.

Cormac

The sky turned black, and my stomach turned. Something was changing, and not for the better. Next year I would leave for Hogwarts, and left behind would be my brother, Charlie. I hated the idea. The idea of him being left with these people. But the idea of being with my dear big sister trumped all. But I promise, with all my heart, I will always look out for them both. Layla and Charles would never stand up for themselves. That's what Jemma and I were there for. I would always look out for them, just like Jemma had said. "Stick with them, Cormac. You all have your strengths. Cedric is a leader and is charming. Layla is one of the kindest souls I have ever laid eyes on. She can make even the broken hearts into something that glows. You are braver than any seven-year-old I have ever met and are one of the best brothers we could ask for. Charlie is so pure, so gentle. Protect them.

I promise Jemma. I promise I will take care of them.

I will hold on till the very last minute.

I placed the letter back onto the table, my hands trembling.

I was to become a Death Eater.

How could I save her now? Now that I am now the very one she needs protection from. I-I can't lose her not like this. If I fail, they will hurt her. I know they will.

So I have to distance myself. It's the only way. After this ends, I will find her. I will tell her of my love. My love for the girl with golden-brown hair. The girl with the most enticing green eyes. The girl who had cracked the stubborn exterior of a boy broken on the inside and helped mend him. Never in my life did I think I would fall in love. In fact, I never really knew what love was. All I had known was one night stands and meaningless flirting. As my father had always said, "Love is for one who is living in a fairytale, and my son, life is no fairytale." But was he wrong? Yes, I do believe he is. Because my heart ached for my Sunshine,

A/N - ngl this is my favourite chapter so far. I want to quickly thank everyone. The views on this quadrupled overnight and are still going up really quickly. I was so happy when I came home and saw this.
