I followed Layla down the dimly lit hallway, leading off into three bedrooms. It confused me how Layla and Cedric two of the seemingly happiest, smiliest people could grow up in such a dark, gloomy place. The house was certainly not what I imagined. The house was conveniently divided by the kitchen, dining and a sitting room with Layla's parent's bedroom and whatever else down one side and Layla's and her brother's down the other. Most of the halls were sad and gloomy and overall kind of like the manor, but as soon as we entered the bedrooms, they burst with colours. All of the rooms were connected by doors leading into one another Layla's being in the central. She showed me to the door on the right leading into a room with trophy covered walls and the same warmth I had seen In Layla and her brothers shared bedroom. She smiled and let out a laugh,

"It's been a while since I've been in here." That's when it hit me, this was Cedric's old room. I'm not really sure how I didn't notice before, I mean the trophies, the quidditch gear and the photos of him and his siblings. I saw Layla pick up the frame of his bedside table. I walked over, looking at the picture inside, it was Layla and Cedric. They looked a lot younger Cedric seeming thirteen, fourteen Layla being nine or ten a smile plastered across both of there faces. Layla quickly wipes her eyes, probably hoping I wouldn't notice. I turn to her and abruptly pull her into a hug, I didn't hug many people, but something about being around Layla made me feel this way.

I felt safe,

the kind of safe I had never felt before.

Not the safe where I was surviving,

the kind of safe where I was so unbelievably happy.

Layla did that for me.

"So," my father began carefully chopping up his potatoes, "how are you enjoying your break so far?" He says looking up at Draco,

"Uh, yeah It's only the first day but, It's going pretty good," he said awkwardly.

"Layla, how are your charms classes going?" My mother said, attempting to pull the attention of the table away from Draco.

"Fine," I mumbled,

"Speak up Layla."

"There going just great," I reply sarcastically.

"Tone, Layla," she sighs. I was so tired of this, my parents acted as if I was the only one at the table, and my brothers sat there. They are horrible parents. My entire life, my parents, fawned over Cedric, praising his every move, encouraging him through everything. But I could see through the lies. They only ever had kids to keep their family name alive. When I was young, they never asked me how I was or how school was going the same with my brothers, It was always Cedric. I should have despised him for that but, I didn't. I could see past the smiles, he didn't like my parents any more than I did. Now I was in his shoes, and I had never felt so unhappy.

"We will arrive back on the thirtieth for the Bulstrode families Christmas party," My mother finished.

"Huh?" I say, she gives me a disappointed look and shakes her head.

"Layla, can you pay attention, your father and I are spending the next week out on business." I feel my face light up. This school break is going to be a whole lot easier without them here.

The next half an hour was full of tension, silence and carefully structured conversation. In other words, it was boring.

After dinner, I excused myself and so did Draco.

This Is gonna be a good Christmas,

my first in a while.
