Draco

I had missed my chance. Would I ever get to kiss her? What if one of us doesn't make it. What if I lose my Sunshine.

Everyone had left the scene of the fireworks by now and had gone back to their Common rooms. That's what I thought, at least.

"Draco, hurry up," Blaise says, running through the corridor.

"What?" I say, catching up to him, "what's happening? I someone else getting fired?"

"No, Umbridge caught Harry and his side chicks in her office." I turn to Blaise in a frantic state.

"Was there anyone else?" I practically yell. He gives me a confused look, but then it hits him.

"No, Draco, it's alright she wasn't there," he laughs. I let out a sigh, praying it will stay that way. Layla couldn't get involved again.

-

"Caught this one trying to help the Weasley girl," I spat, dragging Neville into the office. Umbridge had made us round up everyone helping Potter at the time. Thankfully Layla wasn't among them.

"Got another one," Goyle laughs in a sinister matter.

"I didn't do anything," a familiar voice hisses. It was Layla.

I glare at him, causing him to look around, confused.

"Swap with me," I hiss. Goyle furrows his eyebrows and shakes his head obnoxiously. I shove him causing him to look back at me. "Don't want to end up like you did last time," I smirked, nodding my head towards her.

It was only then I noticed the tight grip he had on her. I felt my blood boil. "Goyle, you twat! Swap with me, or I'll tell Pansy about your little crush."

His eyes widened, and he shoved Layla towards me, causing her to stumble. As I helped her regain her balance, I gently held her hands behind her back.

"Are you alright, Sunshine?" I whisper. She looks at me, and my heart begins beating faster than ever. But instead of giving me a look of disgust, she gently smiled. I noticed her relax from her usual tense posture.

She felt safe.

She felt safe with me.

Layla

I felt relief wash over me as a friendly face looked down at me. I couldn't help but smile despite the situation I was in. Draco was unquestionably one of the most beautiful boys I had ever met. I couldn't help but let my eyes wander.

My heart had been shattered as I walked away from him. I nearly kissed Draco Malfoy. I didn't truly realise how much I wanted this. This boy was all I ever wanted.

I was so enticed by my thoughts I didn't even notice the situation unfolding around me.

"The Cruciatus Curse should do," Umbridge says. I tense up. The curse had been used on me three times so far. And for what?

"No!" I yelled over Hermione's talking.

"Your friend Layla has had a few encounters herself," Umbridge bragged. "Layla, why don't you take Harry's place if you're so concerned." I felt the tears spill down my cheeks. Was it selfish for me to want to save myself? Yes, surely. Putting my needs above someone else's. I had to do it.

"See, that's what I-" She began.

"I'll take his place," I gasp. This was gonna hurt like hell.

"Very well."

"No, Layla!" Hermione cried. I looked back at Draco before I took my seat. He had tears in the corner of his eyes. He looked at me in pure disbelief.

"Tell her, Harry!" Ginny squeals.

"No, you can't," I whisper.

"Crucio!"

Pain engulfs me, worse than ever. As if millions of knives were being continuously stabbed into me. I could barely make out Hermione's screaming over the ringing.

But then it was gone.

The pain stopped, so did the ringing, and before I knew it, there was someone at my side. Was I dead?

"Layla!" the voice cried. Draco? My vision cleared, and there he sat. The boy I looked upon with such fondness. I'm almost sure I threw myself into his arms. He wrapped his arms around me instantly. I felt myself shake and sob into his shoulder.

"Come on, I'll take you to the Common room," Draco whispered into my ear. "Blaise, make sure nothing happens while I'm gone."

"But-"

"Blaise." He nods.

Draco helps me up, but my legs give in, and I feel dizzy. Luckily Draco was there. "It's all good," he says, picking me up bridal style. He walks out of the office, me still in his arms.

"Sorry," I whisper. He laughs softly,

"It's alright Sunshine," I look up at him, and he smiles down at me.

I feel safe.
