In which N'ijah finds out what she was missing all her life.
...
N'ijah Ellison is the perfect wife. A hard working, god fearing, and loving person anyone could ask for. But, she constantly think she's not enough. Her dark thoughts continue to hau...
The car couldn't drive fast enough for N'ijah. She was restless, laid out in the backseat, her head on her mother's lap as she tried to not give birth in the car. As she took deep breaths, her sister was on the other side, holding her feet and telling her to stay calm.
Finally, they arrived at the hospital and the nurses rushed N'ijah out of the car and onto a stretcher, wheeling her into the blindingly white hospital. Nyala, Niya, and their father rushed inside after them, looking to see where they were going. As they followed the nurses, a doctor blocked them and asked where her significant other was.
Giving him a look, Nyala clarified that they were N'ijah's family and hesitantly, the doctor let them through, giving the trio a weird look as they passed. Niya called up Jamari, but went straight to voicemail. As she kept trying, they found N'ijah's room, and saw her laying on that hospital bed, blood already pouring.
"Hello?" A groggy voice emerged from the phone Niya was holding, and she quickly put it off speaker so N'ijah wouldn't hear.
"Your son is being born, so I'd appreciate if you could COME, YOU MOTHERFUCKER." She whisper-yelled. Jamari jumped up, almost as if he forgot he had a son on the way. Niya could hear the rustling of sheets and clothes through the phone, and sighed. I'm glad she doesn't have to deal with this mess anymore. She hung up, and went back over to her sister, who was currently trying her best to get to the tenth dilation.
"It'll be ok, JiJi. I'm here. Momma's here. Pops is here. We are here for you." She kissed her sister's forehead. N'ijah smiled at her weakly. Her big sister was always there for her.
The nurse announced that I was almost time to start pushing, and instinctively N'ijah looked around for her baby's father, and seeing him not be there was starting to give her stress. As the too-familiar feeling started to wash over here, she heard a shout and Jamari, clad in a pyjama shirt and jeans with mismatched sneakers, came rushing in. N'ijah felt a pain like no other, and the nurse shouted for her to start pushing.
Grabbing her hand as she started to push, Jamari came close to her as he looked at his son being born. Her hand sat limply in his hand, not grabbing it at all, and it dawned on him. I fucked up.
N'ijah's tears and cries of pain and anguish were loud. So loud that it almost overpowered the baby's cries as his head appeared. As the nurse guided her, N'ijah, bit by bit, allowed herself to relax as the pain started to decrease.
"Just one more big push, Ms. Smith, and your son will finally be here." The nurse held him as N'ijah released one more guttural scream and pushed, fully birthing the little baby in the nurses hands. The room was silent, except for the baby's loud cries as his umbilical cord was cut and he was laid in his mother's arms.

"He's beautiful." N'ijah cried as her son wrapped his little finger around hers. Her heart melted as his big brown eyes stared into hers, and he gave his mom a small smile. A hole in N'ijah's heart that she didn't even realize was there, wasn't filled, but it was bandaged. The glow she gave off brightened by 10, and her son's glow was just as strong.
