Why him? It could've been anybody else, but it had to be him. Conric will admit, he had the chose to reject the 'task', but... having a legend talk to the in-trainging out of all of the others made him feel... special, in a way. And the infamous Oni chose to talk to him, because Conric was the best out of the bunch, the strongest, the smartest. He could beat any trainee with one arm tied behind his back... when Nylon walked up to the cubling out of nowhere, Conric had almost embarrassed himself by nearly dropping his club due to Nylon literally appearing out of the darkness behind him. Yes, he has heard stories about how one of the most greatest Oni conquered the toughest land or how he hunted the most toughest prey, so doing that right in front of him wasn't the greatest of impressions. And the great warrior was asking someone who hasn't even killed a dragon yet, to do something for him. Of course Conric agreed to it right away without even knowing what it was because just standing next to him was an honor.... which is how he got stuck with baby sitting this... thing.

"Quit touching me." He snarled. This was one moment he won't be forgetting anytime soon.

"Can I hold your club?" She asked with big wide eyes. The look made Conric a little uncomfortable.

He can see why Nylon's offspring was called 'Akila'. Sure, she had the same shape and glowing eyes as all other Oni do, but instead of the common color black like the rest, she had a more lighter color, more grey or silver. And if she was angled just right in the bright light, it look almost shiny, like a jewel. It was unatural, and it made him almost question Nylon about whether or not this is actually his kin. And for the past 37 days, every bright up, he had to watch the little monstrosity and make sure she doesn't get harmed by anyone, all the way until bright down. It was exhausting, he was missing out on the hunts, his energy  was always gone at the end of the day, and his group kept avoiding him due to Akila and her odd appearance always 2 feet behind him, so he couldn't even get the chance to talk to them...

"No, you can't"  The trainee said bluntly.

The little cub wasn't deterred by the tone in his voice,  and to show it, she puffed out her chest and said, "My Papa said that I'm gonna get my own club some day, so why not make it today?"

It was then that Conric actually turned and looked down at the small Oni. "As your 'protector'," he quickly rolled his eyes and said, "I have to make sure you go to back Nylon, unharmed, or it's my head. So what makes you belive I would just... lend you my weapon with absolutely no fighting experience?"

Akila put her claws behind her back and thought for a moment. "Hmm, I'll leave you alone."

"No."

Since standing next to him wasn't good enough, the mischievous little child figured it would be a good idea to hold his arm. "Please? Just once Connie."

"No, let go of me and stop calling me that, vermin." And to show that he didn't want to be touched by her, he yanked his arm away and went back to standing straight.

"I will when you stop calling me vermin, Connie. And let me hold your club." She retorted, obviously oblivious to her watchman's tone.

"No. Be quiet and sit still before one of the soldiers come by and ask us what's all the yelling about." Due to living in a giant cave with endless tunnels that led to different caverns and traps, every noise that they made echoed off the walls and into the network of tunnels for all to hear. Having to watch her was bad enough, but having everyone know that was worse.

"Your the one who's yelling, Connie." Oh this cub did not know when to quit, did she?

"I'm not yelling you insufferable little xafo!" He quickly stopped before he could yell out every little problem into her face, and get brutally killed by Nylon. His sudden outburst made Akila take a step back, but only a step."And my name is Conric, not Connie, Conric." He muttered.
