Smoke was in the air, the cries of her fellow friends were heard throughout the deadly quiet forest. She ran as fast as she could, but it was like as if she was running through water. 'Why am I running so slow?! They're in danger!' She struggled and struggled, but she could not move any faster. Mystaké was right by her side. There was not a sound of life except for them. Not a hoot from an owl, not the sound of salmon jumping in the river, not even the sound of deer walking through the forest floor. Everything felt wrong. This place felt wrong, her breathing felt wrong. Just what was going on?
And the sisters never ran into anything at full speed. That was what toddlers did. And she swore there was nothing in front of her, yet it felt like she ran into a wall she couldn't break. A small oof escaped her lips as she fell to the ground. The 12 year old stopped just a few meters away. When the fallen oni disguised as a human looked up, she was surprised. 'What is he doing here? I thought he was too busy training the new recruits, so... why is he here now.' His skin was blacker than night, fangs barred and slightly open. And his green glowing eyes suddenly looked..... menacing in way. But ____ was sure it was just a truck in her eyes.
"Vall! Thank goodness, we smell smoke in the vill-"
The sound of Valhallik pulling his sword out of the scabbard silenced her. A little growl rumbled in his throat. But the sword looked off. Like the weapon itself was bad news. And bad news was something that her sister Mystaké didn't need. 'Somebody needs to get to the village. And Val here looks like he isn't going to let me.'
____ got back up and dusted herself off. She looked straight into his eyes, trying to figure out what he was doing here looking like a threat to her.
"Myst, go help the village. I'll deal with this."
Her sister looked at her and back at the man who couldn't get out of a finger trap last week and needed help. She could sense a hostile vibe coming from the man that she considered to be an older brother. Just what was going on? A loud scream interrupted her thoughts. That was Yannaleah! "NOW! Before somebody gets seriously hurt," ____ said.
Despite her gut telling her to stay, the younger sister nodded and kept on running. Leaving ____ here with a man that had the power of the worlds in his hands.
"No!"
I quickly lifted my shirt up to the bottom of my chest and checked for any blood. My heart was going a million miles as I breathed really fast. When I realized it was still only a dream, I relaxed and plopped back down. It was only a dream, nothing more, nothing less. Todd was still asleep like as if my scream was muted. My arm draped over my eyes like some kind of over dramatic drama queen. Urg, I hate the mornings. I know this may be the most stupidest thing ever, but..... I'm afraid that some bad guy is gonna burst through my bedroom door and stab me in the middle of my chest. Stupid right? I looked my clock. 8:30 am.
Time to get up. Yay. Early morning light peaked through my curtains, making me looking away from it. Why was it always so bright in the morning? With a groan, I swung my legs off the bed and got up. Todd was on his back still snoozing with one of his back feet in the air. I gave it a little poke and walked out of my room. Thank God my day off is tomorrow. For real this time. But I'm kinda glad I got to work yesterday, for once. And Lloyd is suppose to swing by work today for that letter. I felt like I shouldn't have read that, but like what my actual step mom, Svitlana, said, 'You are always the curious type my little ptitsa.'
I missed her, but now is not the time to be thinking about that! With a small huff, I pulled some clothes out of my dresser and headed for the shower. But back to that letter, that psychotic maniac has a child?! I've seen him on the news when I was a younger, and all I saw at the time was a bad man floating in the air destroying innocent people's houses. And I've been to Stiix, did a few tricks there when I was in the circus. And believe me, the last thing those people needed was a freakin' dead guy with the power of the wind at his side trying to bring a.... thing into our world. That's some messed up stuff. I can't even imagine myself doing something like that without feeling guilty, so I don't know how they can even do without the guilt.
