The sun was shining on the two brothers that were walking down the rainbow bridge.
They were almost there when one of them decided to share his opinion with the other.
"On the second thought, brother, I don't think this is a good idea." Loki told his brother.
"If you're scared, you can go back home, I'll go alone." Thor replied.
"Oh please, Thor, you know I'd follow you anywhere. But please, just reconsider it... There surely must be a reason to why our sister never visited him." Loki said carefully. At first, he thought it was a great idea. He was keen to meet Odin, he had so many questions to ask.
"Yes. The reason is that she hates him. That's why. Simple as that." The older brother was annoyed. After all, what could happen? He was the best warrior that he's ever seen.
"Thor, I really don't think this reasonable. We should go back and replan, ask mother, sister. We should bring someone with us, just in case-" Loki still tried to change his brother's mind.
"Enough." Thor shut him down. "Either shut up or go home. I don't need to listen to this."
Loki opened his mouth, almost wanting to say something, but then he closed it. If Thor was going somewhere this dangerous, he had to go with him.
Meanwhile, they arrived to the Gatekeeper.
"Heimdall! Take us to father." Thor ordered.
"I can take you to Helheim. But I can't take you precisely to where the Allfather is. I can't see him, I only know he's alive." Heimdall replied calmly.
"What, have you grown old? Well I don't care, I'll find him. Take us to Helheim then." Thor replied.
"I can do that. However, I have to warn you. Helheim... It changes people. And I won't take you back if I am not absolutely sure that your return isn't a risk to Asgard." The gatekeeper said.
Thor thought for a minute before continuing behind Heimdall to prepare for the transportation. Loki only closed his eyes for a moment and then he walked to his brother.
Thor was stubborn, and when he set a goal, there was no stopping him. He was like a giant, blond bilge snipe, pushing his way with his big horns. Or, in Thor's case, his hammer.
Loki gave the Gatekeeper one last look as Heimdall started opening the Bifrost with his sword.
"Stop!"
The brothers turned around to see their sister. She was sitting on Fenrir, her wolf. She jumped down and sent him back home.
"I can't let you go to Helheim. It's a one-way ticket, you wouldn't return." she said.
"You can't know that!" Thor roared. He was furious.
Hela was older than him, so technically, her word had more weight than his. If she forbade Heimdall to open the Bifrost to Helheim, he couldn't do that, no matter that Thor would order him otherwise.
"I can. I went there, once. And I barely made it back, I almost died there. I refuse to let you go." She told him. Loki knew that she wasn't lying, but Thor would never listen to him, especially not when he was having a fit of rage.
"Lies! I don't believe you. You hate him! You wanted the throne for yourself, that why you banished him." He shouted at her.
"Thor, you know well that that isn't true. He realised that his actions weren't right, and he was seeking redemption. He wanted to use me as a tool to take the blame." She explained.
But Thor was just shaking his head. He didn't believe a word she said.
"Thor, think. I was a soldier, he was the general. How could I decide which realm we'd conquer? And do you see me on the throne? Deep down, you know that I'm right." she said.
That was the last drop of water that fell. Thor's cup of nerves overflew. He spun Mjolnir and threw it right at his sister's head.
But Hela catched it in mid-air. She lowered her hand, but she was still holding the hammer strongly enough to keep it in place. And no matter how hard Thor tried, he couldn't summon it back to his hand.
That enraged Thor even more. He started running towards Hela, ready to fight her with his own fists if necessary.
"Thor, stop it. You know you can't possibly defeat me. And I have no desire to fight you." Hela said.
But Thor attacked her nevertheless.
Hela easily blocked his punches. She had him pinned to the glass ground of the bridge, and she wasn't planning on letting Thor go. At least not until he was entirely calmed down.
That's where Loki came in. He was hoping he could soothe Thor's rage and calm him down.
"Thor, calm down, please." He told him in a firm but soothing voice, not much different to the one that Frigga always used.
He went closer to Thor so that he could see his face, but that was something he shouldn't have done.
His brother threw him far away. Loki flew through the air, over the edge of the rainbows bridge.
Before anyone actually realised what was going on, Loki was falling down to the abyss, closer and closer to the stars.
Hela was so taken away that she let Thor go.
He summoned Mjolnir and almost threw himself after Loki. But Hela caught him by his cape before he could do so.
"Let me go!" Thor roared.
Hela shook her head and replied: "I won't. He's gone, Thor. I'm sorry, but there's nothing you can do for him. And I'm not letting you die as well."
Thor realised that she was right. There was nothing he could do.

A/N: Yes, I know, I know. But Loki's fall to Thanos was necessary if I wanted to follow the MCU's timeline at least a bit. So... Yeah, at the moment, it's year 2011.Thor 1 basically never happened because the entire storyline pretty much happened because of Odin's terrible parenthood. So, no, Thor never met Jane.
Another thing - I know it's cruel to let Loki fall this way, by Thor's hand. But it was the only logical way that I could think of. Because, let's be real, a graceful god like Loki would never just accidentally stumble and fall to his "death". That's more like us, Midgardians.
Thanks for reading the long author's note, so I'm just gonna say - stay safe,
Cissy.

FanficI've been thinking a lot about how would the MCU look like if Odin just... Didn't exist. So, yeah. This is it - Odin is somewhere very far away from all of his children.
