New York was a big city. It wasn't much compared to Asgard, of course, but it still had its own beauty. Especially when one was looking at it from the sky.

Loki was sitting in the front of the quinjet with Hela. They brought him along, as well as the archer who was currently back to his normal self. Or, at least, as close as was possible at the moment.

The two never spoke. They had some sort of a silent, mutual respect towards each other – both being controlled, they had done terrible things they'd normally never do.

The target place was visible from afar – a tower of a... modern shape, standing fiercely among other tall buildings. On the top were five big and shining letters, creating the word STARK.

As they were getting closer and closer, one could see people on the roof, surrounding a large object in which the Tesseract was safely locked.

The heroes inside the quinjet could see a smaller man with little to no hair, dressed in a dirty checkered shirt. Loki remembered him well – he was one of the first that Loki used the Scepter against, he was there when he arrived.

Over the course of the few days the two spent alongside each other in a dim lair, building the tool that would control the Tesseract, using it to open a portal to let the Chitauri to Midgard.

Erik Selvig was fascinated by the effects of the Scepter of minds. He was solely focused on the work, so much, that he didn't even change his clothes, and he slept only once, for a few hours, so that he wouldn't waste a second by not working.

By the man's right was a woman with long brown hair, clothed in a grey shirt without sleeves (something that Loki couldn't understand), a blouse of a questionable material wrapped around her hips and a periwinkle blue scarf around her neck. Her name was Dr. Jane Foster.

She was kidnapped a few days after Dr. Selvig, who told Loki about her, who ordered his agents to get her. At first, she didn't want to join them, of course. Once she first awoke, she was kicking and screaming, she even managed to bite a man through a thick shirt.

But once the Scepter touched her chest and freed her heart of fear and worry, she was eager to cooperate. She indeed was a valuable addition to the team of scientists, she surely sped up the process of building the machine.

And that was what worried Loki. It was possible that they were too late, the portal above the city could open within the next few seconds.

Which could, of course, be fatal to the city. But, speaking absolutely honestly, that wasn't Loki's main concern. With the portal being opened, a companion of The Mad Titan, The Other, could be closer to Loki, closer to Loki's mind.

And he couldn't let him get there, not under any circumstances.

The quinjet landed in a small park nearby. Loki saw his brother flying alongside the Man of Iron, who entered the building to change into a more functional suit.

Meanwhile, Thor was to try and disassemble the machine. But at the exact second in which Thor's feet touched the ground, it lit up and an all-too-familiar ray of blue light shot to the sky.

Too late. As always.

The Chitauri, hideous aliens who did nothing but destroy, started flying from the portal.

"Stark? Thor? Try to destroy as many as you can while still in the air. Romanoff - take the quinjet and shoot them down. Clint – find yourself a rooftop to shoot from. And please, someone, get Dr. Banner up to the Tower to try to do something with the machine." The Captain started ordering the team around.

Loki was slightly annoyed by that. Not that the plan didn't make sense – it did, it was the most logical plan that there was. But he wasn't entirely used to obeying the commands of a Midgardian. Still, he listened carefully and didn't rebel against the plan.
