ava woke up to the sound of someone knocking on the door, weird she hadn't ordered anything.

she pulled herself out of bed and stumbled to the door, slowly opening it.

"hi a!" clay beamed,
"oh hi, good morning." she mumbled.
"it's 1pm." clay chuckled, "are you just waking up?"
"yeah i started watching b99 season 7 last night so i didn't sleep much." she explained, letting him into the house.
"ah i see." he said as he plopped himself onto the couch.
"now." he said clasping his hands, "where's this cake."

ava giggled at his eagerness to try the homemade baked good so she grabbed them both a piece and sat down next to him.

"holy shit." he said shoving his mouth full, "this is good!"
"yeah it's way better than i expected." she agreed.
"you should bake more."
"maybe i will!"

the pair sat there eating and talking for a little. the close friends had such a great dynamic, they really understood each other.

"so you and nick, huh?" clay said finishing his last bite.
"what?" ava stuttered.
"you and nick." he repeated.
"what about us?" ava said beginning to get flustered.
"oh come on now, the past month and a half you guys have barely spent a minute not on the phone." he stated, "this is probably the longest you've gone without calling him, and i bet, as soon as i leave you're going to facetime him."
"we're just close." ava said, her face now covered in a light pink coating.
"just close?" he asked, "ava, you're one of my best friends and even you and i can go weeks without talking at times."
"look it doesn't matter how i feel about him." she sighed.
"what do you mean?"
"i mean he will never see me as more than a friend." her demeanour had clearly changed.
"do you see him as more than a friend?" the man questioned.
"i mean, not right now. we just met, but i guess maybe in the future. i could imagine him as something more." she explained,
"i don't know clay, it's stupid." she sighed.
"it's not stupid, ava. he'd kill me if he knew i told you but he definitely has feelings for you."
"what?" her eyes lit up. "you think so?"
"he told george and i." clay said.

he told them he liked her? avas stomach was in knots. she'd only ever had one proper boyfriend and wasn't really looking for another before she met him. something about him drew her in, when they were talking time would fly by and all her problems would fade away. but she couldn't imagine being in a relationship. not after her last one.

"look that's great but i'm not looking for anything right now anyway, like i said in the future possibly, but not now." she said, clay had noticed something wasn't quite right.
"are you alright?"
"i'm fine."

clay decided to let it go and the pair went back to chatting about random things before he had to get home to stream.

george

clay
i think somethings up with ava

george
what? why?

clay
she seemed fine
until i mentioned relationships
then she completely changed

george
did you mention sapnap?
maybe she just doesn't like him back

clay
yes
but she said she could see them together in the future
and her eyes lit up when i said he liked her
but when it got to mentioning them actually being together
she changed, she seemed almost scared.

george
scared?
has she ever been in a relationship before?
maybe she's nervous

clay
i'm pretty sure she went out with some boy for a couple years
until august
but she never told me much about him
i saw him around school once or twice
he seemed like a dick
