I heard footsteps approaching as I started turning back to the cave's entrance. If they catch me, I will be dead. I started running silently, hoping from all my heart that they wouldn't find me. When I reached the end, I stood there dumbfounded. The door was gone! Gone as in no longer there! How was I supposed to get out of here now?! I slowly retreated to the nearest hidden path, a small opening in the cavern wall. I waited there quietly in order to avoid getting captured.
"Is anyone there," someone called out.
I stayed still. After what seemed like an eternity, the light from the lamp could no longer be seen. Phew, that was close! There had to be another exit somewhere. I just had to find it. I was about to start walking when I heard a faint voice.
"Are you sure our plan will work? They already found the girl. She could bring everything crumbling down and you know that," a young male voice said.
"I know what I am doing. Don't question my judgment again," a woman said in a stern voice.
"Very well, but if something goes wrong you will be the one Itzel will blame," the same male voice said.
There was that Itzel again. Who was that woman? Something wasn't adding up to all of this. First, I hear Mayla and the cloaked figure talk about me, then I discover my picture in some secret place. The more I thought of it, the more it became hard to believe that me coming here was an accident.
"Indeed it wasn't," someone said. The voice was somehow bubbly and I couldn't tell whether it was a male's or a female's.
I jumped! Oh no, I have been found! I will be dead soon.
"You realize there is no need for all this worry. I am on your side."
I still didn't talk. What of this was just a hoax to get me to reveal my hiding place. Just then something whizzed past me. Instantly, a cloaked figure appeared in front of me.
"We are on the side of anyone who is against Itzel. You better come with me now before anyone realizes you're here."
"What are you talking about? Who is that woman," I asked, finally having enough courage to open my mouth.
"She is someone you don't want to mess with. Now take my hand and let us leave this ominous place," the figure spoke as it extended its hand.
I grabbed hold of his hand reluctantly. If there was the slightest chance that I would get out of this place, I will take it. The second my hand touched it, I felt a chill run through me as I saw blinding light. I closed my eyes in pain, and when I opened them again I could myself stand in a place surrounded by little huts.
"Where in the world am I," I asked in confusion. Did I just leave The Ancient Forest? Was the figure on of The Leaders trying to kill me.
"You worry too much, you know. I already told you we are friends not foes," the same cloaked figure said.
"If you want me to trust you, you have to show me yourself. It is either this, or I am out of here.
The cloaked figure removed its hood, revealing a boy, not older than I am, beneath it. His eyes were all the colors mixed together. They changed color from red to blue to yellow to black and so on. It was so mesmerizing. His hair was Aegean blue.
"Would you quit staring," the boy said.
I quickly took my eyes off him and looked elsewhere. Perhaps he had something interesting to say after all. I mean if he wanted to kill me, he would have done it already. There was no need for him to show himself before it, right?
