Three

Ana

I really like the second block. Usually I would be in power hour with the seniors, but I was able to negotiate to get a study hall in the library. I am a Junior this year. Throughout my entire school life I have been solely focused on my studies. I study every night, I have never turned anything in late or failed an assignment. Nor have I ever missed a day of school. I think I did once. In the fifth grade for something but other than that I have been healthy and happy in school.

I like the library because it is always quiet. There is another study hall on the other side of the large room, so I just remain quiet on my side. Half the time I doubt the other class even thinks I am here. That is all I do, sit, and read for the time I am here.

- Forty minus later, bell rings -

My quiet time is over at the sound of the bell. I stand from my seat and walk to my locker. Math is next so I grab all the essentials for the class and head to Mrs. Wings room. Once I arrive I take my seat. Since it is the start of a new semester, I have new classes.

I like math. I am pretty good with numbers too. Mrs. Wing is also a really nice teacher. "Alright class. Settle down." She calls out to the crowd. Everyone falls silent at her command. Most everyone respects her. "We are starting our first module today!" She says with enthusiasm. "Complete your warm up in the next five minutes." She hands out the papers and when she places the paper on my desk I silently thank her. She smiles and continues down the rows.

I finish my warm up quickly. And after a little while everyone else does too. The rest of the class goes by fairly quickly. After math I went to spanish, then lunch, then english. My last class of the day is gym. They put this class with the Seniors and Juniors. It makes me really uncomfortable with the upperclassmen.

Thankfully I have this class with both my best and only friends, Kimberly and Emma. We have been friends since middle school at least. The only reason we argue is over a homework answer, but we end up just laughing about it later.

I don't really like gym class because it is well- gym. But another thing is that the popular people like Mike, Josie, Alic, Maria, Eric, Todd, and Jake are in the class. I don't really have a good reason to hate the boys in that group, but I hate Josie and Maria. They are so incredibly mean to me. Mr. Wright isn't bad, he is nice. Gym this week is kickball. I don't mind kickball, but I don't love it either. It is better than most sports we have to play.

Kimberly, Emma and I walk into the gym and sit on the bleachers. Mr. Wright reads off the attendance list. He goes through the names checking them off as he goes. "Morris? Is she here today?" He asks, referring to me.

"I am here, Mr. Wright." I raise my hand.

"Oh, sorry. I didn't see you." He smiles and checks off my name.

"Nobody ever does." I hear Joise giggling.

I hide my face. "It's okay. Don't listen to them." Kimberly says to me.

"Yeah, who cares what they say." Emma assures me. They pick on me a lot so I am used to it.

Mr. Wright finishes attendance. "Alright. Go get changed and when you come out run two laps around the gym." He orders.

I sigh and we all go into the locker rooms. I go to my locker and grab my change of clothes. I don't like changing in front of everyone, so I go into the showers to change. I quickly take off my boots and jeans slipping on my leggings and sneakers. I pull off my sweater and when it is around my neck, the curtain opens.

"Hey Ana! Your sweater is so pretty! Too bad you make it look so ugly! Oh well!" She laughs at me before walking away with Maria. I hold back tears as I put on my t-shirt. I pull my hair tie out and pull my hair into a ponytail before going out to the locker room.

"Hey, you okay?" Kimberly asks.

"Yea." I flash a smile.

We go out to the gym and start our laps. When we finish, the class sits on the bleachers again. After a couple minutes the class is all quiet and sitting down waiting for instruction. "Okay! So we are playing kick ball!" Mr. Wright states. "Who wants to be team captains?" A handful of people raise their hands including Eric, Jake Todd, and Josie. "Eric, and Josie." Mr. Wright points to them.

Josie squeals and walks up and stands next to Eric. The two stand a few feet apart. Eric is tossed a red jersey and Josie is tossed a blue on. She scoffs at it for attention before putting it on. Her and Maria are in my grade, Eric isn't. From what I heard, Eric is a foster kid, but I don't know if that is true because I have never had a conversation with him.

"Eric, pick a girl." Mr. Wright says.

"Okay, I pick Courteny." He says. Courtney walks over and puts on a blue jersey.

"Josie, pick a boy and a girl."

"Mike and Maria!" She smiles, acting all innocent.

The picking goes back and forth for a while until I am the last one left. I have to go on Josie's team, thankfully Emma is on this team. Kimberly got picked for the blue team. "Alright. Red is kicking first." Mr. Wright states. The red team lines up at the kicking side, Emma and I are more towards the back. "After three strikes you're out!" Mr. Wright calls out.

Mr. Wright pitches the ball and Josie kicks it and it is caught. She throws a "cute" little fit before going to the back of the line. "One out!" Someone calls out.

As the line goes down there is still only one out when it gets to my turn. I kick the ball and it goes flying toward the left. I run to the first base safely, sighing in relief. Emma is next, her kick is caught and she laughs going to the end of the line. The next kicker kicks and I run to the last base I need to homebase.
