"Mom? Dad?" I call out as I walk through the door.

"I'm never going to get used to that!" Claire— My mom squeals as I walk into the kitchen. She gives me a tight hug. "Was the ride home okay?" She asks me to let her go.

"Yes. And that reminds me." I say pulling out my phone to text Ana.

Hey. I just got home.

You home yet?

She must not have gotten home yet. She'll text me when she gets there. "So, how was your day?" I ask her as I sit at the kitchen table to start my homework.

"It was good! Your father surprised me for lunch!" She says, sitting next to me.

"That sounds nice." I smile. "Mom, I wanted to ask you about something." I look up from my papers.

"What's her name?" She laughs.

"How did you know?" I ask her, dumbfounded.

"Lucky guess." She laughs again. "But seriously! Who is it? Please tell me it is Ana!" She takes my hands.

I stay quiet for a second.

"Oh my gosh it is!" She exclaims.

"Stop..." I feel myself blush. "I-I just don't know if she feels the same." I explain my issue.

"Well, how does she see you?" Mom asks. I don't really know the answer.

I've caught her staring at me a couple of times. Ana smiles at me, doesn't frown. She isn't as nervous as she was before around me. She is secretive of anything personal. Ana only tells me about her friends and family if it comes up in conversation. But maybe that is just how she is?

"We talk a lot. Not just about History. Ana doesn't like to talk about herself. She dodges any question that is remotely personal." I explain.

"You've known her all of two weeks. You're an intimidating, handsome, older boy." It'll take time." Mom states.

"I guess you're right." I say.

"Of course I am right!" We laugh. I walked into that one.

"What's so funny?" My dad walks into the room, Belle sits happily in his arms.

"Eric has a crush!" She sings the words.

Dad snaps his head over to me with a wide smile.

"Whatever." I roll my eyes, feeling my cheeks get hot again.
