Epilogue

Ana

- Months pass, 6:09 am -

My phone rings and I am woken to the tone. I pull myself up from the warm bed and squint at my phone screen. It's Eric. "Eric? It's early. Is everything okay?" I ask, my voice is so groggy.

"Quick dress and come outside." He orders.

"What? W-why?" I question.

"It's a surprise." He answers.

"Okay? Can you give me like ten minutes?" I say.

"See you at ten." I hear his smile before he hangs up.

What's going on?

During my confusion, I do as told and dress into a pair of shorts, a tank top and a zip up hoodie with slides. I pull my unruly hair into a messy bun and look at my bracelet for a second before I crutch my way down the hall and quickly brush my teeth. Once I am ready, I slowly go down the stairs to see my mother sitting in the living room with a cup of coffee. She looks at me with a smile.

"Eric called me? Can I go?" I ask with a questioning look.

"I know. See you when you get back!" She answers.

"Okay? See you later I guess?" I laugh a little, hoping she will give me a hint of any sort, but doesnt so I go to the door, telling her I love her before I walk outside.

Eric is leaning on the truck waiting for me, wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants. "Good morning beautiful." He greets, opening the passenger door and helping me inside.

"Morning, Eric? Are you going to tell me what we are doing?" I question with a curious smile.

"Then it wouldn't be a surprise! You can go back to sleep, it's a little bit of a long ride." He says.

I don't argue. I lay my head against the seat and Eric kisses my hair before pulling out onto the road. I fall back to sleep momentarily.

- 7:12 am -

"Ana? You can wake up now." I hear Eric say as he rubs my cheek.

My eyes flutter open and meet his. "Morning." I almost whisper.

"Ready?" He asks.

"I guess." I smile and stretch my arms out.

Eric leaves the car and comes around to my side and I open my car door to meet him. He offers his hand for help and I take it and land on my feet. He hands me my crutches. I've been on the crutches for almost two months now, but it's still kinda hard to travel on. So I keep my eyes down to the ground so I can see where I am stepping.

We walk into the building and I realize we are in a hospital. I shoot Eric a concerned look and he smiles as we get into an elevator. He presses a button to an upper floor and we go up in silence.

Is someone hurt?!

The elevator dings, signaling we are on the correct floor. I follow Eric to the front desk. "Name?" A woman asks.

"Claire Wagner." He answers.

"Uhm—" She types something onto her computer before answering. "Yes. Room three-one-five." She says.

"Thank you." Eric responds and we make our way to the room. On the way, so many thoughts race through my mind. Is the baby okay? It's a little early, a month early... I hope her and the baby are okay.

When we do get to the room, Eric knocks. A voice on the other side of the door lets us in. We walk in, Clair is sitting up in a hospital bed, holding a small baby with an exhausted smile on her face.

"Meet Gabriella Ann Wagner."
