Chapter 25
I was not going to talk to him. As I entered their house, his mother and father greeted me and my family. He was nowhere to be found. I looked around. The decorations were nice, but the house was virtually the same as ours. I smiled politely at his parents. His mother complemented the dress my mother practically forced me to wear. Then Ethan came down the steps.
He had left me alone since Tuesday. I watched him walk, trying to hide the annoyance on my face. He stopped and greeted my parents politely. Then he looked at me. As soon as our eyes met, I diverted my gaze. I wasn’t sure if our parents could feel the negative tension between us, but it sure as hell felt awkward to me.
“Dinner won’t be ready for a little bit. Ethan, why don’t you give Callan a tour?” Ethan’s mother said, smiling. Then she led the rest of the adults to another room.
When Ethan and I were alone, there was a long silence between us where we just stared at each other. Then he sighed. “Come on,” he said and I reluctantly followed him through a small hallway and into another room, which I assumed to be a sun room. I sat down on a little couch in the middle.
I glanced at Ethan to find him staring at me from across the room, where he sat on a small chair. I was determined not to utter a word.
“You’re not talking to me.” He started first.
I was not saying anything.
“Because of what happened with Vicky.”
There was another small period of silence where we just stared at each other. Well, I was glaring.
“Does your eye still hurt?”
I scoffed quietly. A thoughtful question coming from him was unexpected, but I wasn’t going to pretend like he actually cared that there was a bruise underneath my eye for a few days after the fight. It was almost completely faded, but it was his fault I was bruised anyway.
“I didn’t know Vicky would do anything to you.”
I broke silence. “You’ve got to be kidding me. She hates me. Where were you last year?” So much for not talking to him.
“I was busy having a life which was why I didn’t know about you being out of school for two weeks straight near the end of last year. I heard you just dropped off the face of the planet and then came back like nothing ever happened and all of the drama was over.”
I didn’t respond. I had nothing to say about that time.
“So you’re not going to talk again.”
“You’re obsessed with me, aren’t you?”
Ethan shrugged again. “You know why I want to know already.”
“Like I said before, you are not going to get what you want from me.”
He leaned forward in his seat and stared straight at me. His brown eyes brightened as the light from the large open windows hit is face, making his expression look amused. “There must be something you want from me.”
That was easy. “I want you to leave me alone and stop prying.”
“I bet there’s something else you want.” Ethan stood up and I watched him, our eyes locked together as he came to stand above me. He placed an arm beside me on the back of the couch and leaned close to my ear. “We both know there’s one thing you can’t resist.” He said in a husky voice that automatically made goose bumps appear on my arms.
“Are you whoring yourself out for information. This is an all-time low for you Ethan.” I smirked, ignoring the ridiculously small gap between his lips and mine.
