                Chapter 10

Lynn was still laughing at me at school in the morning and I was beginning to get offended. Was the fact that I was trying to get a boyfriend that shocking ... Now that I thought about it, it kind of was. I mean, I’ve never had a boyfriend ever in my entire life. It was against my previously slutty nature to pursue one or allow them to pursue me for anything more than sex.

“Do you even know what a boyfriend is?” Lynn was asking me.

“I know what they are.” I scoffed at her. Did she think I was stupid? “I just don’t know how you go about getting one.”

She laughed at me. “Wait until the others hear this one.”

            “Shut up.”

At lunch I broke the news to everyone else, ignoring the presence of Anna who still seemed to be acting like she didn’t want to be near me for some reason.

“Guys, I’m going to get a boyfriend.” I told them.

            “Excuse me?” Kim said.

Hailey looked at Lynn. “Is she for real?” She asked.

“I’m not sure, but I don’t think she’s joking.” Lynn said.

            “I’m serious!”

“Why the hell would you do that?” Hailey said, her eyes popping out of her head.

I explained as if it was obvious. “It’s so I can stop being a slut. I’m thinking that if I limit myself to one guy, I can stop lusting after all the others.”

“Isn’t that essentially what you did with Aiden except you were technically still being a slut because there were no strings attached and you still messed around with other guys?” Kim said.

“Well yeah, but I want it to be official this time. Like I’m completely taken and no guy can touch me except my boyfriend.”

“Are you sure you want to do this? I mean, boyfriends can get possessive and annoying. You have to actually like the guy you know.” Kim pointed out. She had a boyfriend for a while last year and that’s what happened to her

            “I know.”

“I don’t think people will believe you’re actually taken Callan.” Anna said as she ate her sandwich. I looked at her strangely. So suddenly we were talking again?

“She’s kind of right Callan. It would take some massive convincing for guys to actually believe this.” Lynn said. “I don’t even believe it.”

“You all will when I find myself a real boyfriend.”

“Just don’t start thinking you’re in love.” Kim said.

I scowled. “I definitely won’t be doing that.” That word and the emotion behind it were like poison. I had seen it destroy people first hand.

“But what if you do start falling in love?”

“I’m not going to fall in love. What makes you think I would ever subject myself to that kind of torture? The relationship is going to just be fun, no seriousness. If things start getting serious then I’m hightailing it out of there.”
