Chapter 17:
I heard the awaited knock on the door and I pushed down all nervousness as I headed downstairs to answer it. The house was empty except for myself and there were about twenty minutes before school started so Aiden had ten minutes to get whatever he wanted to talk about off his chest. My parents were both at work already so there was no one to bother us. I opened the door and there stood Aiden. I took in his appearance and found myself biting my lip. He looked good as usual in our school uniform.
“You look good too Callan,” he said, stepping past me with a smirk on his face. Did he just read my mind?
I closed the door and turned around to find that he was already sitting on the couch. Crossing my arms, I stood in front of him, waiting.
“Start talking.”
He paused and looked around. “We had a few good times on this couch.”
I blushed. “Are you here to reminisce?”
“No. I’m here to ask you to break up with Mark and be with me.”
Did I just hear him correctly? Did he just ask me to break up with Mark for him? “I’m sorry, what?”
“I said I want you to break up with Mark and be mine.” I realized he was serious when I looked into his eyes.
“No.” I said automatically.
Aiden stood up and walked towards me, stopping when our bodies were only an inch away from each other. Those blue eyes of his made me nervous so I avoided them. “I want you and only you.” He said, lowly. I tensed at him using such a seductive voice, willing myself not to fall for it.
He reached for me and I moved away from him, but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back towards him. “Callan.” I looked at his hand on my arm and how close we were standing. He was too close for comfort and his touch was too distracting.
“Let go.” I glared at him.
He sighed and removed his hand. Then he ran his hands through his hair in an exasperated manner. “You don’t get it. Something’s wrong with me. I can’t stop thinking about you.” He looked at me. “I want you back.”
I narrowed my eyes. “You never had me. We were just two friends banging each other.”
“But now you won’t talk to me.”
“I can’t talk to you.”
“Why?”
“Every time I talk to you, you try to pull me back in and I don’t want that relationship that we used to have. I have Mark now and for the record I’m not trying to screw that relationship up.”
“Friends then. That’s all I’m asking.”
“You don’t get it. I can’t be friends with you.”
“Why? You know, you’re the only person who knows almost everything about me. Ever since I came back this summer…”
I sighed. “I know, Aiden, I know.”
“Then why can’t you be friends with me?”
“You know why.”
“Enlighten me.” He moved closer again.
My voice lowered. “Just being around you is toxic.”
“You still want me.” He said, stepping even closer so that we were in the same position as before.
His hands went to my hips, making my stomach turn with anticipation. I stared up at him hesitantly and he began leaning towards me. My mind was screaming at me to move away, but I stood there staring up at him while his mouth moved closer. I wanted to kiss him. Every time I saw him, I wanted to kiss him. Our lips touched briefly before I finally regained control of myself and moved away. “I can’t do this to Mark.”
