Chapter Forty One

"Y/N, I got another role for you to consider." Saera came piling in while you were sitting in the conference room, a total of eight scripts piled around you, covering your entire side of the meeting table. Nine counting the one she had very blatantly chucked onto the table. You stared mindlessly at each of the massive packets of paper, wondering how you had managed to be offered a lead role for each and every single one of them.
Let's say, Reason's To Live, hit it off beyond imaginable.
The last episode aired a month ago and it's been breaking records ever since. You, Jungwoo, Changkyun, and Suhyun had been on a different show every week, talking about your experiences with the stunts, the filming, the travel, the friendships.
The relationship between Jungwoo and you.
The questions were awkward to answer especially since he was practically your brother in law at this point.
Jungwoo and Lila were pretty serious now, it was scaring you.
You'd heard about all of Lila's sixteen two week to three month boyfriend's in London, but those two have been together for practically eight months. And you were sure they weren't ever breaking up.
Speaking of months.
Shownu and June's wedding was at the end of the month after the next. And the month after that was Changkyun and yours one year anniversary.
One year of ups and downs and pure insanity.
Yet also the best one year of your life.
"Am I just supposed to pick one? I have a few more weeks with DI and I'm done, right?" You confirmed with Saera, wanting to forget all of that ever happened.
But then there was brand releasing, and you'd rather not have Changkyun figure out from the news.
So, you had to find a way to soften the blow.
You had an idea but it had a 80% chance of him dumping you.
But the other 20% would at least try to fix the wound in his heart. Maybe not completely, but partially.
And maybe, just maybe, you were willing to take that chance.
"You have two weeks left. Then the interviews and the photo shoots will be up in two to three months."
You stared at all the scripts you had been offered. Most were romances, there were a few action movies and dramas, a comedy drama, and a short fantasy mini series.
You know that you didn't have executive decision in the end, but that action movie seemed pretty fun. You'd get to work more on your stunts and maybe you could start working without or at minimum with a stunt double.
Movie stunts were cool but terrifying.
You weren't the best but you tended to do most of them. Then again, you've only done two action dramas and both weren't as action as they could be.
You didn't notice a couple staff members seat themselves around you, taking a look at the scripts.
"Good afternoon, Eggo." A certain someone came in through the frosted glass doors, holding three drinks in his useable arm, quickly handing one to Saera, who seemed pleasantly surprised and placing another one down in front of you.
Ironically, the only one that wasn't a coffee.
Changkyun did a quick scan of the room around him, seeing that there was only four other people in the room. He bent down, sneakily pressing his lips against your temple before shooting up and pretending that nothing happened.
You eyed him, going to slap his arm but the one that was next to you was the one in the sling.
A day after you'd tended to his little stab wound you noticed that it started bleeding a bit more than it should instead of slowly healing. And you meant it was bleeding a bit too much.
So, you had Leo drive him to the ER and he came home with six stitches.
Turned out the knife had dug far deeper into his skin than you had realized.
You didn't know if he was just being dramatic again, but he'd determined that his arm couldn't move after the stitches were taken out a week and a half later, so he'd been wearing that little sling of his for the last eleven days.
Then again, Changkyun didn't like anything to get in the way of work so it was safe to assume that he actually couldn't move his arm. Yet he refused to go to physiotherapy.
An interesting soul, Im Changkyun was.
"Your court date is in a few weeks. I can get you out here if you need." He whispered into your ear, tucking a loose strand of your hair behind it. You could feel Saera watching the both of you with very questionable expressions, knowing that Changkyun shouldn't be all "lovey dovey" at work.
Truth is, you did want to ditch work today, but there was too much important stuff going on.
Sure, there was the trial in a two weeks that practically determined how long Kyung was going to be in jail, and Changkyun had somehow hired one of the best lawyers in the country to be on your side. They'd collected information and evidence you didn't even know existed.
Changkyun, Taeyong, and Yuta apparently had been collected evidence and witness reports for the last ever, and they'd turned them into the court for inspection to see if it could be used.
Apparently one of those weeks where he said he was busy with work, he was doing a different kind of work.
You didn't know your boyfriend and your best friends were detectives but they apparently, they were and they sure were good at it.
Though Yuta did punch a man in front of an entire police force, but you suppose that could be ignored. Even though he punched him multiple times. And he started bleeding.
Yup, they could definitely ignore that.
Plus, attempted murder was also now on the list of charges your former manager was faced against, with Changkyun as living evidence.
While having to go through court business and meetings with lawyers about obviously your witness statement, you had to come to tell almost everybody about the last seven years of your life.
You told Jungwoo, you told Doyoung and Sicheng, you told all the guys, you told June, you told Saera, you told your mother, with Lila.
Let's say, your mother was a mix of furious and heartbroken for the both of you. There were a lot of emotions going on in that one household.
But it was all really coming to an end. Things were really, and you meant really starting to look up.
"Eggo, I can make a cover up. I can take you home." He whispered into your ear again and you slightly nudged him away, shaking your head and pointing towards the piles of scripts. He looked at you with that worried look that he always seemed to wear around you, pulling out a chair with his one arm and taking a seat next to you.
"Help me pick one." You pulled up a few of the ones that you liked, pushing the rest to the side. He curiously studied the first couple pages of each, pouting before turning to you.
"These are all romance. No kissing other guys." He reprimanded, brushing more than half of the ones you'd deducted away. You glared at him, looking around to see all the other eyes in the room on the two of you.
"You can't say things like that out loud." You whispered through your gritted teeth, just looking at Changkyun who was very occupied in reading the synopsis for each scene at the front of the scripts. You tugged on his tie lightly to get his attention, pushing him away gently since he was too close. He simply looked annoyed, pressing his shoulder back next to yours. You punched that one, shaking your head at him.
"You're going to get yourself fired, idiot." You muttered, making him laugh. He leaned himself on your shoulder, resting his head on it, making your entire body stiffen up, your eyes darting around the room.
"Stop it." You seethed, flicking his head and hoping not of the staff members would turn around. You could feel Saera's laser vision on you both. Changkyun didn't budge, his navy blue collared shirt bunching up as he rested his arm on you, his other one laying limp in his sling.
You don't know why he wore such formal clothes today. He showed up in sweatpants half the time.
"Son, I know you love your girlfriend but must you do this at work?"
You jumped at the sight of your literal boss standing in front of you.  However, Changkyun did not budge, simply looking towards his uncle. You tried to push him off of you but sometimes you swear his head was so heavy.
"Just know, that I am responsible for your relationship. If I didn't throw Changkyun into that drama, you two never would've happened. So, you're welcome."
You guess we're announcing the relationship to the three staff members in the room, who had instantly turned around and stared in shock before realizing what they were doing and turning back around, scurrying out the conference room.
He placed a orange packet down in front of you, taking a seat from across the way, Saera standing respectfully at his side.
"I wanted to bring this personally. We received it the other day but you were occupied."
Changkyun grabbed the packet, waving it violently in the air in attempts to open it. You gently took it from his hand, opening the paper pouch for him.
Pictures.
Of you.
It was that photo shoot with DI.
"I thought my nephew would want to see them. They're very different from your typical look, Y/N."
You hadn't been able to see any of the final cuts but your attention wasn't focused on the pictures. It was on Changkyun who was pawing through each and every single one of the glossy photos, his cheeks bright pink and his eyes widened as he carefully scanned every single detail.
"Stop looking at it like that!" You whined, covering his eyes in embarrassment.
His cheeks got even redder at your touch.
You'd never seen his face get this red before.
"Can I keep them? Like all. Forever." He removed your hands and tried to gather as much of the pictures as he could with his one arm, stuffing them into his sling, making them stick out of it and poke his sharp chin. You rolled your eyes at him, pinching his cheek gently before taking all of the photos he'd stuffed away and flipping them upside down on the table.
"Which company did you even model for? Can you score me a deal with them?" He looked hopefully at your uncle, making your heart stop. You saw his stop too. Changkyun switched his gaze from the both of you, examining your expressions and tilting his head slightly in confusion.
"Changkyun, anyways. It's that time of the year." His uncle swiftly changed the topic, making you able to take a breath instead of suffocating in pain.
That was a close call.
He couldn't find out just yet.
But it was that time of year?
You looked back towards Changkyun, his expression did a full 180. The flustered bliss turned into an annoyed fury.
"Your father." His uncle sighed. You couldn't contain your gasp. You instantly went to grab his hand, carefully squeezing it, hoping to convey some empathy.
You didn't know they still had contact with his father.
"He wants to me-"
"No." Changkyun lowly uttered, not letting him finish,
"You know my answer, uncle. It's not changing. It never will. I'd much rather meet my mother."
You instantly met eyes with Changkyun's uncle, he looked at you, nodding as if he knew exactly what was going through your mind. He had that look of sympathy, that look of understanding that most could never retain even if they were the kindest of people.
It was as if he was encouraging you to do the thing you'd been hesitating to do.
"Why are you both staring at each other. It's not like Eggo knows who they are." Changkyun said plainly, ripping your heart into tiny pieces.
You knew who both of them were.
You knew one of them a bit too well.
"I'm sure Y/N can help you meet the company's chairwoman. Maybe you can be brand ambassadors together. I'm sure she would love to have Changkyun around."
Your jaw dropped at your boss, staring at him completely petrified. Changkyun, who was completely oblivious to the situation simply nodded, not knowing what the hell he was agreeing to.
"Sounds fun, doesn't it, Eggo? We might be able to work together again." He beamed, his smile bright while he looked at you.
You glanced back at your boss who merely nodded.
"I think you're ready, son. If she accepts you, which I'm sure she will, don't act too lovey around staff. You can do it to a limit here but you know how this industry is." He pat his right shoulder, standing up and heading towards the door which Saera had rushed to open for him. Before leaving, he peeked back, looking at his nephew,
"Are you sure you don't want to speak with your father? It's been nine years, Changkyun."
He shook his head, his statement adamant.
"He was never a father to me. He let me leave, so I'm not going back."
"If that's what you want."
And he left, leaving the both of you in the room. Saera had stepped out as well. Changkyun sipped his coffee, making you instinctively reach for whatever fruity drink he had gotten you this time.
"My father always tries to get me to talk with him around this time of year. I don't know, I guess after I became successful he just decided that he wants me back."
He got up from his chair, pushing it into the conference table and offering his usable hand out to you. You didn't take it, not wanting to strain his arm and simply getting up on your own.
"What about your mother?" You asked curiously, wanting to know what mess your boss had just gotten you into.
"My mother doesn't physically ask me to see her. She... she makes herself seen. I do miss her, I know she was in a similar situation as I and through it all she was the best mother she could be." He sighed, his gaze softening at the mention of her,
"It's been years, and just the idea of meeting either one of my parents isn't one I like. Though I'd rather it be her than him."
Well, that was something.
"You wanna ditch work?" He suggested, his solemn mood dissipating into a mischievous one in a matter of seconds.
"We can't just leave." You scolded, the glint of troublesome in his gaze not leaving. Out of nowhere, he grabbed your hand, taking one of the scripts that was on the table as well as the packet and then grabbing your hand, kicking the glass door open and booking it down the company lobby.
"Changkyun, your arm!" You screeched, watching in horror while his left arm harshly jerked around in his sling, making you wince. He was going to ruin that arm even more.
But you couldn't help but laugh at the similar situation.
Around a year ago you both were in this exact same situation, running down a similar lobby, except you had a freak Taeyong chasing after you, and half way through he started carrying you.
He obviously couldn't do that now.
And then there was an article about it.
Except now some people actually think you're dating, though most assume that you and Jungwoo are together.
Changkyun and you had even stumbled in on a fair amount of tweets about Yuta and you.
Those scared the living daylights out of you.
It was always the Changkyun stans that noticed the behavior that not even you would notice.
Well, there's so much that could be deducted after your favorite actor who avoided women like the walking dead suddenly starts smiling at this one tiny girl for no exact reason.
They were smart like him.
And there were a few fans that caught a glance at the engagement ring that June ended up buying Shownu to match the one he bought her.
Twitter was an interesting place.
You didn't even know how they noticed things like that when you could barely remember your own name half the time.
Changkyun continued to drag you across the lobby, pulling you out into the garage and straight towards his car that was conveniently parked right in front of the both of you.
He let go of your hand, throwing you his car keys which you somehow managed to catch. You didn't hesitate jumping into the drivers seat, pressing a button and getting the car to start.
You zoomed out of the company building and didn't even look back.
"How do you not get fired?" You breathed out, resting your head back on the seats while you clutched onto the steering wheel.
You had gotten surprisingly better at driving.
"Because I'm an executive, a major shareholder, the Chairman's nephew, and one of the main sources of income. They can't afford to lose me." He responded cockily, and you could almost see his raised eyebrow and that satisfied grin of his.
And the annoying part was that he wasn't even lying.
"How am I not getting fired?" You then asked, because in all honesty, you should've been ditched the minute you were signed.
"Because you're mine and if you go, I go. They can't afford to lose either of us."
"The world really does circle around you, doesn't it, Kyun?" You giggled, stopping at a stop light. Changkyun shook his head, a warm grin spreading on his face.
"If the world circles around me, and my world circles around, technically, we're all revolving around you, Choi Y/N."
You choked on air, coughing furiously at that cringe line. For a lyricist, he was rather spectacular at being painfully cringeworthy. Like you were literally in pain.
Changkyun pat your shoulder with his arm, placing the script down on his lap. You forgot he'd brought that with him.
"Which one did you pick?" You asked curiously since you didn't get the chance to peek at the title since he had held it so tightly against him.
"It was one of the action movies. It's a big production, nice company, lots of business partners with us working on it, plus the cast is tight and made up of people that are either somewhat familiar to you or acquaintances and friends of me, except Chanwook, just ignore him."
He really had the time to think of all of that. He literally looked at it for like thirty seconds.
Who the heck even is Chanwook?
"I don't know, Kyun. I liked the idea of that romance one. The main actor is hot." You joked while turning into the apartment building, finding the designated parking spot and taking it.
"You can't call other men hot. You don't even call me hot."
"That's because he's hot, and you're not." You responded instantly, slipping out of the car, Changkyun scurrying out behind you.
"Hey, I'm the hottest man on the planet."
"That is Jeon Jungkook."
"Well, I am the handsomest."
"That is Kim Taehyung."
"I have the most perfect face."
"That is Kim Seokjin.
"I hate you." He began to walk away, and you stood still, knowing that he'd turn on his heels and come straight back to you. He almost made it to the door, and for a second you genuinely thought he'd leave you, but as you predicted, he jerked back and came skipping, intertwining your hands with a grin.
"I love you." He sang, making your heart flutter at the simple three words that he'd always say.
Who knew it took only three words to instantly make your day.
You both strolled into the elevator, Changkyun covering your eyes with the script and the packet as soon as you stepped in. You found it cute of him but it did somewhat calm your nerves. As soon as you made it to Changkyun's doorstep, you noticed a little box sitting at his welcome mat. You picked up, unlocking the door and heading straight into his bedroom, jumping onto his bed, hearing him laugh. He flopped down beside you, giving you anxiety as soon as his left arm hit the bed.
"Stop that. You're going to get hurt." You grabbed him by his shirt, holding onto his collar and pulling him up, his face ending up right next to yours. Neither of you reacted, simply staring into each other's eyes, his dipping down to your lips every now and then. Your cheeks went pink as soon as you noticed, trying your best to avoid his gaze. You pulled yourself back, awkwardly laughing while you focused your attention back to the package.
Almost a year together and you still get embarrassed when it comes to situations like that.
His free hand rested on the box, struggling as he tried to pull off the tape. You simply pushed it away, taking yours nails and stabbing them into the cardboard, cutting through the tape he'd tried to hard to get rid off.
"Gosh, you're so violent." He muttered quietly, almost as if he was trying to keep you from hearing him. If that was his plan, it sure did fail.
Your eyes landed on the red velvet boxes that were inside the package. Changkyun grabbed one of the boxes and you grabbed the other one, sparing each other a single glance before both opening them.
"They're so tiny." He scoffed, pulling out what was supposed to be your ring. You pulled out his, giggling at it, trying to slip it onto your ring finger but it wouldn't go all the way down.
Well if it didn't fit you, how would it fit him?
"I guess I messed up the sizes. If you would've stopped slapping my hand and trying to pay for it, this wouldn't have happened." You looked down at his hand, taking the one they wasn't in the sling and resting it on top of yours.
A genius idea.
You slipped it onto his pinky.
Perfect fit.
He did the same back to you and you both laughed while connecting your pinkies, the rings glowing in the light that shone from his open curtains, your painted nails complimenting them.
"They're so cute!" You squealed, taking his hand in both of yours and admiring the way the ring fit on his smallest finger. Yet somehow it was larger than your biggest one.
Changkyun was quick to rip off his sling for no exact reason, making you stare at him in shock with your eyes widened.
Especially when he started swinging his left arm around. You grabbed his wrist, pinning his arm to his side while you frantically searched for the sling he'd thrown on the ground, having to reach out past him, peeking out of his side.
He merely chuckled, both his arms wrapping themselves around you and pulling you in front of him.
"I don't need it." He casually stated, the cloth bandage still around his wound. You furrowed yourself eyebrows at him, not believing a word he was saying.
"Lift your arm above your head."
He did it.
"Twist it back behind your back."
He did that too.
"Grab your other shoulder."
He did it with ease.
"Touch your cheek."
He placed his hand on yours instead, his fingers curling up around your temple, basically holding your entire face in his palm. You sighed, tsking while shaking your head at him.
"You're really terrible at following directions."
He shrugged, that satisfied evil smirk plastered on his annoying face.
"What can I say? I'm a bad boy."
"Shut up." You rolled your eyes at him, completely unimpressed with his line before letting his hand travel from your cheek to the back of your neck, practically bringing your face in front of his.
You tried not to react, hoping that you weren't blushing at the sudden bold move he had decided to pull.
You awkwardly twirled your fingers around his tie, letting him gaze into your eyes, his other hand snaking itself around your waist.
"What exactly is going on here?" You giggled, your own finding their way onto his shoulders, resting them carefully there.
You didn't trust that his arm was okay.
"You want to know a cool fact from your smartly sexy man." He offered, raising his eyebrow curiously.
"Sure, Kyun. Why not."
You were kind of scared, knowing that he doesn't say things like this without an ulterior motive, but you were going to give in anyways.
"Did you know?" He started, making you lean closer with interest, noticing his smirk widening as soon as you did,
"Did you know that kissing can burn up to five calories a minute?" He stated with feigned surprise, making it seem as if he were fricking Bill Nye,
"Making out can burn up to twenty five calories a minute." He leaned his forehead against yours, that teasing smile of him burning your eyes out as your heart rate began speeding, the combined heat between the both of you making it pleasurably suffocating.
"Wanna work out with me, babe?"
"Im Changkyun, are you saying that I need exercise?" You jokingly flicked his shoulder as you watched him get all flustered.
Revenge, sucker.
"No, Eggo, no. That's not what I m- why can't you let me flirt with you?"
You rolled your eyes, feeling his hand travel back to your cheek.
"You don't need to flirt with me." You simply put, tilting your head slightly,
"Just do as you wish. I don't mind."
Did you regret saying that? Not really. You had a whole story of pick up lines that you had at your disposal.
The most useful part about being an actress.
However, the guy you were using them on had an ego larger then the mass of the sun and confidence beyond imaginable.
He didn't hesitate to pull you even closer, your eyes fluttering close as soon as his lips were on yours. You felt his smile against your lips, sending your heart into overdrive with every new move he made. Your arms tightened around his neck, letting his travel to your back as he carefully brought you down onto the bed, completely out of breath as he pinned both of his arms on either side of you.
He had that playfully seductive look in his eyes, looking down on you.
"I think I should stop going to the gy- ah!" He yelped, his left arm giving out on him as he came crashing down, his head landing on your stomach as he laid helplessly on top of you.
You broke out into laughter, the mood between the two of you instantly dying as you gently stroked his hair, giving him an encouraging pat.
"This is why you listen to me. Now do you see why you're Mr. Annoying Hypocrite?"
He lifted his head up weakly, looking straight up at you with his chin resting on you, his pout evident as he uttered,
"Yes, ma'am."
