Chapter One
Y/N POVYou couldn't believe you were running late. Of all things you could be late for, you just happened to decide to be late for this.
You ran down the streets, trying to avoid all the people in the way. It wasn't easy seeing as you were in the heart of the city.
How glad you were that you decided not to wear those heels.
You clutched onto your black leather messenger bag as you raced down the sidewalks until you finally made it.
Oracle Entertainment.A/N: yes I'm not using starship bc yeah
You straightened out your blouse and skirt and pulled out your phone to check your hair. You may not look perfect, but you look approachable. You took a deep breath. This was big. If you messed this up, you'd be screwed.
You gathered up your courage and stepped through the revolving glass doors.
The air conditioning hit you as soon as your foot landed on the marble floors. The cool breeze calmed you down, especially since the weather outside was burning, it was significantly hotter than all the previous summer's you remembered.
You looked around, the place was gorgeous. The looming smell of baked goods traveled across the wide main floor. People in business suits were scattered around the area, as well as many young people in normal clothing.
The glass walls of the building gave it such a warm but classy vibe.
This was definitely a major upgrade to what you had before.
You walked towards the main desk and was greeted by the welcoming smile of the receptionist.
"I'm here for a meeting with Chairman Bae Yoonhyuk." You said as composed as possible.
"You must be Ms. Choi Y/N? Am I mistaken?" The kind lady asked and you shook your head curtly.
"Please follow me." She exited the booth, the desk, the- you didn't know wha to call it. She walked quickly towards the elevator. You tapped your foot softly on the ground of the elevator.
This was big.
You couldn't believe that you were in such a big entertainment company like this.
You didn't think you'd be back to this industry after what happened with your last company, but you didn't want to think about that.
You'd been scouted by one of the most popular companies that there ever was.
Not the biggest, but they'd produced Stars. In both the acting and idol world.
You hadn't even auditioned. You were in your small apartment when you had received an email from their management team, asking if you wanted to sign with them.
And now you were here.
Well you'd been here before, to discuss the contract.
But this was the big day.
You'd be telling them your decision.
The elevator door opened and the lady led you down an uncomfortably long hallway.
"This is the meeting room, Ms. Y/N." She said while gesturing towards the handle of the door in front of you. She walked away. You peeked through the door, there were about ten people in the room. Not many but enough to make you nervous.
You squeezed the leather strap of your bag and took a deep breath.
You can do this.
Your hand hovered above the handle for a couple of seconds before you eventually opened it.
You bowed instantly and was greeted by a small applause.
"Over here." Said a dashing young man in a collared shirt as he patted the empty seat next to him.
You recognized him instantly, he was Lee Jooheon.
He was one of the members of a seven member boy group. After a while all of the members went on to start acting careers after they all starred in a TV drama together.
They haven't really promoted any music since then.
Jooheon was famous for his charm in any field of entertainment. There was nothing he couldn't do. Whether it was an action show, a romance movie, or a live variety broadcast. He'd do it all and he'd nail it all.
You awkwardly made your way over to the seat and sat down carefully, pulling your skirt as far as you could.
"Should we start?" An older man asks rather loudly.
"No." A voice from the other side of the table says, it's a lady this time,
"There's still an empty seat next to, Ms. Choi." You looked around to see where the empty seat was. Your eyes searched around for a bit before you realized that the seat was right next to you.
You were Ms. Choi.
"Changkyunie is always late." A male voice uttered a couple seats down from you. You recognized him as Shownu. He was known for his lead roles in action dramas, as well as a few comedies.
Now that you looked at it, all seven of the boys of the boys were in the room. Actually, no... not all seven.
You set your bag on your lap and tapped your foot softly as you anxiously waited for this to start. You could feel the awkward tension between everyone in the room, but the door opening saved it from lasting too long.
"Im Changkyun, the fuck?" Shownu whisper yelled at who you now knew as Changkyun. Changkyun was known mostly for his movies, he'd done tons of them. He made a name for himself by being cast as a lead in almost every movie he starred in. He didn't do many TV dramas, and the one he did do involved him being a minor yet quite seen role in a romance drama. It was at the beginning of his career and he hasn't done one since. He was known for his undeniably snarky attitude which made his fans love him even more.
You couldn't lie, he was remarkable at acting, especially action movies, but his personality from the way you'd seen it hadn't made you like him that much.
Of course, you weren't one to judge, you didn't know him personally.
"Sorry. I got caught up in something." He said with the driest tone. He bowed quickly and looked around the room before he noticed the only empty seat next to you. He slowly walked over to the chair and flopped onto it, slouching and not bothering to make himself look the smallest bit professional.
What an entrance.
"Anyways," the CEO, Bae Yoonhyuk rolled his eyes at the younger boy,
"Everyone here knows what we're discussing today."
He made eye contact with you,
"Y/N, you went over the contract right?" Everyone's attention was directed towards you, which made your nerves spike. You nodded slowly, but confidently.
"Yes, sir, I did."
He chuckled softly at you, his wrinkles creasing slightly.
"What did you think? Is your decision what I want to hear?"
Your palms were all sweaty but you knew what you had to say.
"Yes. I plan on signing it." You smiled brightly. The room erupted into a short, polite applause. You bowed more times than you could've counted.
"Wasn't there something more you were planning to talk about?" Someone else pipped up.
"There was, Kihyun. Thanks for reminding me."
Yoo Kihyun. Known for his appearances in almost every variety show, as well as his roles in multiple romance movies. He was the rich boyfriend every girl dreamt of.
The Young Flexer, as he self proclaimed.
"Ms. Choi."
This catches your attention.
"Before you left your former company, NVT offered you a lead role for their upcoming drama, am I right?"
You nodded, you wanted to take the offer so badly, but you were in the middle of... sorting out issues with your company since you were in the process of leaving. You told them that you would've loved to take the role but you have a situation that wouldn't allow you to.
They never responded.
The day after that, the article about you leaving your company was posted.
"We had told them that we were planning to sign you," he smiled brightly,
"And they still want you to play the role."
Your eyes widened.
You'd never been asked to play a role in an actual drama. YouTube mini shows, sure. But and actual drama. Produced by a giant production company.
Never.
"The reading is in a week and they want an answer by six o'clock."
You walked into the building at one. It couldn't have been past two.
"What do you say? I do know that you aren't with us until the legal documents are signed, but I have a feeling that you'll do great."
You thought about it. You were never planning on coming back to the industry, let alone signing with another company. This wasn't a decision you could make on a whim, it was something you should take the time to think about it.
But this wasn't an opportunity you could pass up.
"Sir, I'll do it."
You heard Changkyun snort from next to you, but you didn't acknowledge him.
"Perfect." He exclaimed, clasping his hands together. He gestured to the woman sitting at the opposite side of him and she pulled out her computer and immediately started typing. Kihyun sneakily looked from behind her back.
"I have one more thing too."
Everyone turned curiously to the CEO, by the looks of it no one else was aware of this.
"Changkyun ah."
Changkyun sat up straighter and turned to directly face the CEO.
"Yes?"
The CEO met eyes with everyone else in the room before directing his attention back to Changkyun.
"You're going to be in the same drama."
"A drama!"
Someone exclaimed rather loudly. Your gaze landed on the raven haired man with his jaw wide open.
Lee Minhyuk.
Comedy genius and known for being the host of his own variety show. He interviewed anyone and everyone and made sure that they were beyond comfortable during a shoot. He was also known for his second male lead curse. Every romance drama he'd been in, he'd end up as the guy who didn't get the girl, even if the fans preferred it to be him.
Although he was just acting, you couldn't help but feel bad.
"Changkyun? In a drama? Am I going crazy?" The man with longish black hair fake fainted on another black haired man.
The first one was Chae Hyungwon. Typically cast as either a funny background character or the serious main lead. He's quite awkward during variety shows but once he gets comfortable, he becomes a true entertainer.
Wonho was the macho man, although his personality off set what quite different from what you'd seen. His muscles gained him a whole lot of attention from the public but so did his lead romance roles in countless dramas. He's done many genres but he wasn't at Jooheon's level of variety.
"I didn't sign up for this." Changkyun exclaimed rather loudly. He looked genuinely confused and genuinely distraught by the idea.
"You didn't, but I signed you up for it." CEO Yoonhyuk chuckled brightly at the young man.
"But-" Changkyun started but the CEO didn't allow him to finish.
"It's a romance drama."
The gasps echoed through out the entire room, with yours being just as loud as the rest.
"What?" He shouted. He looked right on the edge of throwing something. You flinched as he raised his voice.
"It's about time you do one, Changkyun. It'll benefit both you and company."
"But what about me? Why didn't you think about my opinion? You know better than anyone else why I don't do ro-"
He stopped himself and suddenly his face became solemn. You wondered what the sudden change up was for.
"I thought it would make sense for a Senior to show his Junior around. Show her what it's really like at the top of the industry."
Your eyes felt like they were about to bulge out of their sockets. You hoped you had misheard him, because what you were thinking couldn't be true.
"Changkyun, Y/N. You'll be starring in the drama together."
The two of you turned to each other. He grimaced at you and you tried giving him a polite smile. You weren't sure if it worked.
The CEO got up from his seat and made his way towards the door, the two other employees following closely behind him. The woman whispered into the CEO's ear and he nodded happily at her.
"The article will be out in an hour."
He stepped foot outside of the doorframe but stopped to face you.
"Welcome to the family, Y/N."
They left.
The room was unexpectedly quiet. You and the other seven people in the room awkwardly eyed each other before Changkyun stood up and angrily stomped out the door as well.
"I'm so sorry about him." Wonho apologized softly, giving you a slightly disappointed expression.
"Sometimes we question if his puberty ever ended."
You laughed at that, he sure was right. Changkyun did seem to act like a moody teenager from what you saw of him.
"That's funny, sunbaenim."A/N: sunbaenim means like senior since korea is big on respecting people of a higher seniority in said fields
Shownu popped into the conversation and shook his head.
"None of that sunbaenim stuff. We're family now. No honorifics."
"Not unless we're in front of a camera." Minhyuk added with a smile.
"Oh." You breathed,
"I'm not so sure about that. Is it really okay?"
They all nodded.
An awkward silence fell on all of you before Jooheon broke the silence,
"Y/N, you played Park Mijin in Trapped, right?"
A smile plastered across your face and you responded,
"Yes, that was me."
You loved it whenever someone remembered you as that role. It was the best role you had ever gotten and it was also one of the most popular roles you'd ever gotten. Although you were technically a supporting character, you basically had a lead role. You appeared in every episode and you were always around.
You worked alongside some amazing actors and as a rookie, you were so happy to have had the opportunity to be apart of the cast for that show.
You were still close to all the cast members, especially Chaeyeon.
"I loved your character." Kihyun exclaimed,
"Thank you." You ducked your head down in a small bow and tried to hide the massive smile that was threatening to spread across your face.
"Oh yeah." Hyungwon clasped his hands together,
"Sungjae told us quite a bit about you."
Yook Sungjae was the second male lead of the drama but he was also a close friend that you had made while filming.
"Really?" You chuckled, if it was him, it was probably nothing nice. Perhaps all the stupid mistakes you made while on set. Once you tripped over a cable and fell straight into the clothing rack.
It was embarrassing.
"I'm glad you decided to sign with us." Shownu added with a kind grin,
"It's been a while since we got someone new in the acting department."
"Plus," Minhyuk started,
"Kyun needs someone nice to get him into drama's. Despite your small beginnings and your rookie status, you're a very skilled actress. Action drama's are hard."
You had quite a lot of action scenes in that drama. Lots of falling and shooting guns. It was an amazing experience for you to have and you were so happy to have learned so much off of one show.
"I guess the article came out early." Wonho waved his phone in the air. You all gathered around him and your eyes widened as you read it.
"NVT's Upcoming Action-Romance Drama, Reason's To Live's main cast has just been confirmed. Some Hot Stars make up the cast. We know everyone can't wait to see Kim Jungwoo, Im Changkyun, and Choi Y/N all on one screen."•—•—•—•—•
