  Chapter 20

Sanchi felt proud, instinctively pleased by the unique surprise Vihaan had bestowed upon her on the occasion of Valentine's Day. He had indeed taken the help of Rohini for the arrangements without letting Sanchi get even a hint about it.

Vihaan had again visited Sanchi and Rehaan in the following month but it was only for a day when they had celebrated the birthday of their twins together. Prachi and Rehaan had finally turned two and were rapidly learning the art of speech as the days passed.

Sanchi felt her heart skip a beat when Rehaan spoke fluently, expressing the urge of getting a set of new toys on his birthday whereas Prachi had stuttered a little when she demanded the same thing from her father.

"There's nothing to be scared of, Sanchi." Durga had once assured her over the phone. "The children are only a couple of years old and every child follows a different pattern of learning speech as he grows up. While one is quick enough to grasp big words easily, the other needs time to even utter a syllable. Our Prachi and Rehaan will also improve with time."

It was another month later when Vihaan had expressed the desire of visiting Sanchi but the latter had strictly denied him. She held up an excuse that he hadn't yet arrested Ashna and until he progressed with the case, she wouldn't often meet him as and when he demanded. Though they were trying to mend their relationship, things were still not favorable between them.

They both were bound by conditions before they could reunite again. Shaurya was still in the coma and punishing Ashna was one of Sanchi's ultimate motives. Also, at the back of her mind, she had to take care of a pregnant Rohini whose baby bump was now clearly visible. So she couldn't help but deny Vihaan from visiting them and discovering Rohini's pregnancy.

Sanchi appointed a maid at home to cater to Rohini's needs in her absence during the daytime and also look after a naughty Rehaan who was becoming more mischievous as he grew up. On the other hand, Prachi was growing up to be a well-behaved girl and absolutely obedient to her father.

Time flew quickly. Rohini was now more than eight months pregnant and the date of her delivery was drawing closer. Vihaan was on a deputation to Bhopal for the last three months and the distance between him and Sanchi now seemed so awry and unmanageable. They wished they hadn't drawn this gap between them to satisfy their individual ego. Instead, they should have worked harder to save their sinking relationship.

In all the barren months that had passed, there was also a murderous attempt inflicted upon Sanchi by some enemies of Lipika Oberoi but she was saved by a senior officer of the bureau in Delhi at the nick of time. She had avoided informing Vihaan about the incident otherwise he would have raised a tempest in the Delhi bureau itself, dismissing Sanchi from Lipika's case at the earliest.

Sanchi had never considered giving up on Lipika's case as she had developed a special bonding with the rich lady and in any case, she wanted to earn justice for Lipika. After having lost her husband to a major accident, Lipika had found solace in Sanchi's company with whom she shared all her intimate emotions whenever they met.

"I'll be late toni-ght." Sanchi conferred over the phone, informing and also instructing Rohini to take her medicines on time. "I am here to att-end the police festi-val on the occa-sion of Indepen-dence Day and they've made it compul-sory for the emplo-yees to attend it at any cost."

The banquet hall in Delhi seemed fascinating in the tricolor of saffron, white and green. As Sanchi rotated her eyes to take a glance at the place around her, her mind immediately wandered to a flashback. She remembered how Vihaan had once fetched her to such a festival at Indore on a similar occasion of Independence Day and had given her the best surprise of her life.
