Chapter 45 (Part 2)
There was a time when Dhairya had offered Shalini his help as they trekked past every narrow stream and swamps that came into their way down the dense woods. High up the hills and valleys, there was not enough room to pass through easily, though Dhairya guided Shalini in whatever way he could until they came across a vivid plain land amidst the vast nature.
Putting up a temporary tent and sharing lunch packs with each other, they spent their afternoon in the jocund company of the other. They had come a long way and it was just a matter of a few metres ahead of which they would reach the end of their target.
"How did you find the game, Shai?" Dhairya began as he took a blissful bite on the bread toast he was holding in his hand. "Provided that the speed of your walking pace was very slow. I am afraid we might lose points for the delay."
"I was not finding it courageous at all. Due to my lack of confidence, your speed of trekking also dwindled." She apologized with courtesy. "Will we even be rewarded any points?"
"You were the top scorer so far, Shai. If you lose points in this round, you might fall behind some other children." He expressed his fears. "I don't want that to happen."
"I do not care for the scores, Dhai." She murmured solemnly. "I was not even ready to face either face the training or take up any such challenges when I joined the camp on the very first day. It was you who encouraged me. I could at least reach the finals for which I am grateful to you."
"Sometimes a few words of encouragement are required for the massive push to bring out the hidden skills in individuals. You are already a talented girl who deserved to be in the final round." Patting his palm on her cheek, he said with a smile. "Your excellency with the paint and the brush is amazing. The way you drew the map of the camp couldn't help but win the hearts of the judges."
"I wouldn't have been able to draw it if you hadn't given me the original map that day." She unzipped her backpack and pulled out the map wrapped in plastic paper which shone under the streaking rays of the faraway sun. "While studying the features carefully, I had made up my mind, Dhai. I had decided that I would perform something which will make me stand out among the rest."
"I liked the way you and Aarohi portrayed a medieval kingdom as well as took the least time to put up such an excellent act."
"Your story was way better than ours. I was enthralled with the heart-touching story you wrote in the few hours we had gotten for the preparation and the sensitive character of Prachi stole the show." Her pleasing voice was curious to hear. "Do you write such great stories often?"
"I do occasionally when I come across characters that catch my attention in the real world." He stifled a peal of laughter. "As you see I am someone who is bound by limited conversations with close kins and the special school I attend doesn't have too many pupils who match my criteria for good mates. Thus in the meantime, I take to writing stories on individuals I find interesting. Pihu and aunt Sanchi, by their different art of speeches have always caught my attention since a very young age."
"So you decided to write something for Pihu?" Shalini asked while he shook his head, affirming the same. "Do you plan to write on other people after Pihu? Has anyone else influenced your writing brain?"
"I don't have any such plans at the moment but I have been long thinking to write one on Vihaan uncle. He has a very influencing personality."
"I have not been so close in company with Vihaan uncle but I know he loves me as much as he loves Pihu."
"He does because he thinks you are so cute." Dhairya pulled her cheeks while Shalini pressed her palms together. "You are a nice girl. You mustn't have dropped out of school. It was not a wise decision."
