Chapter 10

Finding Ashna's name as one of the assigned victims almost took Sanchi's breath away and she sat wondering of the unknown reasons behind everything that had taken place in Ashna and Bundela family's pasts.

Sanchi went through her file numerous times and each time she read the details, she couldn't find enough clues to crack the mystery behind the case. Her concentration broke when she heard a knock at her door and she permitted it, allowing the visitor to enter her cabin.

A lean and tall girl with curly hair emerged in front of her desk, a small smile adorning her thin lips as she stared down at a seated Sanchi with a look of warmth in her eyes. Sanchi was quick enough to recognise her as she rotated her eyes back and forth at the file and the girl a couple of times.

"Ash-na? Am I ri-ght?" Sanchi asked in her unusually grave voice, gesturing the girl with her hand. "Ple-ase take a seat."

"Sanchi... Vihaan's wife?" Ashna enquired, plopping down on the chair soon after. "I know you might be surprised with everything but I am here to only meet you. Putting forth my personal issues amongst your workload was not my actual motive."

Sanchi was looking into Ashna's eyes carefully. "If you wan-ted to meet me, you co-uld have sim-ply told your sis-ter Naina to fetch you to my ho-use. Meet-ing me in person here in the bur-eau wasn't even req-uired but since you are here, I will lis-ten to you and try to solve your iss-ues. It is a part of my du-ty now and I can't av-oid it."

"Naina told me many times that you wanted to meet me but I couldn't make it to meet you before."

"Wh-ere were you all the-se days? I ev-en heard that it was Nai-na who was look-ing after your daugh-ter in your ab-sence."

"I was a mentally challenged patient for the past few years and spent many rough days in the asylum, Sanchi." Ashna sounded cold as she wiped the tears oozing out of her eyes. "I was deemed fit last month and when I returned home, Naina told me about you. I applied for you to solve my case so I came to meet you. I want you to bring justice to me."

Sympathy began to brew in Sanchi's heart for her as she moved out of her chair and walked towards Ashna, placing her palm over her shoulder. "See Ash-na, I have al-ready gone thro-ugh your file and thi-ngs are no less than a thunder-bolt for me. I want you to ex-plain every-thing before I start judging any-one."

"Ask me anything you want to know, Sanchi... I will answer you."

"I warn you th-at I don't deal with lies so ple-ase make sure you are alw-ays speaking the tru-th." Sanchi folded her arms as she stood straight, her eyes focussing on Ashna's every movement. "Were you hara-ssed at your in-laws' place? We-re you a vic-tim of dowry or any-thing else?"

"Sanchi... I... I mean we both have the same in-laws."

"Wh-at?" Sanchi held back her breath for a brief second before widening her eyes at Ashna. "Th-ere are many Bun-delas available in In-dore so don't try to fool me."

"I won't make a fuss of false stories here in the CBI bureau at least." Ashna crossed her arms. "My daughter's and my life got wasted because of them. I will get my justice from somewhere else if you refuse me."

"I don't even kn-ow you perso-nally. How can I tru-st you?" Sanchi raised her voice a little. "I solely trust my in-laws and I kn-ow they can't think of harm-ing anyone. You better get me pro-ofs so that I can at least find a way to make thi-ngs feasible bet-ween you and our family. What-ever I have disco-vered so far, you and your sis-ter are not on good terms with the fam-ily, especially with my hus-band."

Ashna let out a scornful laugh. "Vihaan... He is one of a kind who is the most responsible behind this miserable condition of mine. Your entire family is equally responsible for drawing the sword upon us... They didn't even think before throwing me and my infant daughter out of the house... They didn't even care to seek information as to how and where we were... They only cared for their son's well-being and family's dignity."
