Chapter 39
Every year, children would flock to the army camp's large field, arriving at various times to participate in one of the best camping sessions aimed at helping minors improve their lives.
The newbie trainees were arranged in six rows horizontally, with all of them in queues. There were three rows for the girls and three rows for the boys, with a total of thirty-six trainees in each batch.
Prachi occupied the first spot in the second row, while Rehaan occupied the third position. In the sixth row, Aarohi and Ishaan were positioned next to each other, subsequently joined by Shalini and Dhairya.
"As you have already been informed by us, you will hereby be addressed as 'minions'." Brigadier Meethi began at the top of her voice as she hovered her watchful eyes over every child. "But there's a catch here. Calling everyone as a minion won't either do the needful or result in the fruitful conclusion of the training period."
Major Godbole followed up from behind in his khaki uniform and stood before the children, with his hands rested on his hips. "We will begin the training with a game that is supposed to assign each minion a particular name. But before that, I would like to explain something which may guide you through the entire training days."
Rehaan leaned forward and turned to his right, catching a glimpse of Prachi, who stood just a few feet away. Brigadier Meethi's eyes widened as she noticed his mischievous conduct.
"You seem to be the most undisciplined of all." She shouted before controlling the sharpness in her voice. "Have you paid attention to what we spoke about?"
Adjusting his posture, Rehaan merely nodded his head. He had always been the impatient lad who held the definition of the word 'discipline' as meaningless. "I did, Miss. Brigadier. We are supposed to play a game."
"The entire lecture was not just about a game but something more than that." She scoffed while Rehaan lowered his head. "Major Godbole was is all set to guide you through the entire training which you are supposed to follow. It seems that you are only interested in playing the games."
"I am sorry." He mumbled softly, earning a vigorous nod from her.
"That's such an informal apology!" Brigadier Meethi raised her voice. "Your first lesson begins with learning how to communicate with others in the most polished manner. You should replace that 'sorry' word with 'pardon me please'. Is that clear?"
"Pardon me please," Rehaan repeated like a parrot, and Brigadier Meethi shook her head in affirmation.
"As you all know we are biologically human beings who are made up of flesh and blood. Apart from that, we are social beings too. We have conscience and psyche, and are connected with emotions." Major Godbole began with his speech. "Your first round will begin with this aspect of ours."
"Before we detail you with the rules, we will have to sing the national anthem together." Brigadier Meethi hung both her arms to her sides and folded her fingers into fists, making sure every child followed her. As they were done with the Jana GanaMana, she spoke again, "And now we will entrust the first task to you."
"We are driven by basic forces of emotions and engaging rightfully with those will be your priority through the walks of life." Major Godbole shifted backward and drew out a colored piece of marble from his pocket. "I will mark a checkpoint here and blow the whistle. Each one of you will embark on your journey around the entire cantonment and find out hidden boxes containing only one emotion in each. As soon as you locate it, you will return to the checkpoint immediately."
