(Dipper pov)

I look out my bedroom window seeing my mom's car leave and take Mabel to school. Mabel is part of a bunch of clubs at school so mom always drives her to school. Dad has offered to take me to school several times but I prefer the bus. Gives me time to just space out in my own world. Setting my glasses on my desk I take out my electric guitar and small speaker plugging the aux cord into the guitar and making sure the volume on the speaker is low. I bought both of these at a pawn shop last year and spent months fixing them up so I can actually use them. Closing my eyes I take a deep breath as I start playing and softly singing to myself, this being the only time I can ever really play without getting in trouble. "I followed my heart into the fire
Got burned, got broken down by desire
I tried, I tried but the smoke in my eyes
Left me blurry, blurry and blind
I picked all the pieces up off the ground
I've burned all my fingers but that's gone now
Got the glue in my hands, I'm stickin' to the plan
Stickin' to the plan that says "I can"

Do anything at all
I can do anything at all

This is my kiss goodbye
You can stand alone and watch me fly
Cause nothing's keeping me down
Gonna let it all out
Come on and say right now, right now, right now
This is my big hello
Cause I'm here and never letting go
I can finally see it's not just a dream
When you set it all free, all free, all free

I was a boy caught under your thumb
But my star's gonna shine brighter than your sun
And I will reach so high, shoot so far
Gonna hit, gonna hit, hit every target

Make it count this time
I will make it count this time

This is my kiss goodbye
You can stand alone and watch me fly
Cause nothing's keeping me down
Gonna let it all out
Come on and say right now, right now, right now
This is my big hello
Cause I'm here and never letting go
I can finally see it's not just a dream
When you set it all free, all free, all free

You set it all free
You set it all free
You set it all free

This is my kiss goodbye
You can stand alone and watch me fly
Cause nothing's keeping me down
Gonna let it all out
Come on and say right now, right now, right now
This is my big hello
Cause I'm here and never letting go
I can finally see it's not just a dream
When you set it all free, all free, all free

You set it all free
You set it all free
You set it all free
You set it all free
You set it all free"

"You're getting better, I can tell just from hearing it."

I jump slightly as I turn to see my dad standing at my bedroom door. "Oh, hey dad."

He walks over to my desk picking up my glasses and hands them to me. "You know what the doctor said about the glasses."

"I know I know, wear them at all times and don't take them off unless I'm sleeping, blah blah blah."

"Mason, you know why you have to wear them."

"Yeah, I know. I just don't like wearing them." I put the glasses on, my vision instantly becoming clearer once they're on.

"I know, but just keep them on until we can afford you contacts." He ruffles my hair gently. "Now get going or you'll miss the bus."

"Alright, bye dad." Setting the guitar down I grab my backpack, beanie, phone and earbuds and run out to the bus stop down the street.

I feel like I owe an explanation. My mom doesn't like me playing guitar because she doesn't realize that musicians can have successful careers. She wants me to be a doctor like her but that isn't what I want. Dad was in a band throughout high school and college so he understands my love for music, I get it from him after all. He helps me keep anything music related hidden from mom and Mabel. If Mabel knew she would just tell mom, the freaking snitch. Dad helps me with music whenever mom isn't around and even has a deal with the music teacher at school that he helps me get better with lessons once a week for free. I don't like keeping secrets from my mom but she would never understand if I tried to tell her about my love for music. No one at school really knows about my love for music and I prefer it that way. I don't need people thinking that I'm like the flashmob squad.

I put my beanie on as I climb on the bus and sit in my usual seat in the back. I put my earbuds in my ears and press play on the music playing through my phone. I just sit there listening to the music as the bus pulls up to school. Class dosesn't start for another 5 minutes so I sit in the cafeteria reading this sci-fi book I borrowed from the library. I get interrupted as Bill, the most popular guy from school who likes to tease me for some reason, sits on the table and takes my book from my hands. "Hey ,Pinetree!"

"Uh....hi? Can I have my book back?"

"You'll miss the show if you keep hiding behind this book."

"What show? What on earth are you talking about?"

"This show." Music starts playing through the loudspeakers in the cafeteria and I recognize the song. Oh fucking shit.

"Oh no no no. Bill, please don't." He just looks at me with that stupid smirk.
