Standing there, the male pulled out a gun. His brunette locks covering the dark expression of his eyes. "I said, step away from her." never, in his life, had he wanted to protect somebody like this. The betrayal from her lies was quickly pushed away when her suffering rang through his phone. They were two sides of the same coin. Two things so alike, but different at the same time. Her dress was soaked in crimson. He ignored the body that lay far off to the side. His only focus was the petite female spasming in pain. Occasionally, struggling to breathe her body would fall limp before being pulled back into life.
The sight was disgusting, inhuman, and horrible. The way her screams twisted and contorted was almost demonic. He'd requested backup, hoping not to break his promise to Oda. The reason he was here and not the mafia. The reason he'd changed. The only reason he had tried out the light. Running a hand through his hair, his hand shook. It had been forever since he aimed with the intent to kill. He hadn't held this gun in years. "So the ex-mafia executive showed up first. Come to try and take what isn't yours?" the male taunted Dazai as he pulled out a pocket knife.
Dazai's lips released a dark chuckle as his head snapped to the side. Eyes shaking, not with fear but a hardly contained insanity. He'd been a bit on edge since he learned what (Y/n) had lied to him about. He'd let his emotions get out of control. Once or twice it would happen in his mafia days. He'd be unable to control his frustration or anger. Once, he'd shot a body even as it was dead. Chuuya had kicked the gun from his hands. A second time when Akutagawa had screwed up his plans. He'd struck him and then fired to kill. Now, it threatened to happen again. "She doesn't belong to anybody. She's human just like the rest of us." the shaking of his hand steady as his free hand clenched.
Instead of charging at Dazai, the male tossed the knife at the recovering female. "I don't think she's all that human." he mocked Dazai's words, daring him to toss everything out the window and shoot. Just as he was about to press the trigger, a voice shouted from beside him.
"Dazai think that through!" the blond co-worker snapped Dazai out from his head. Lowering the gun, he shot the male in both legs.
Snarling the male leaned against the bricks. "You protect her like she's worth protecting." the raven-haired male spat his words like venom.
"She is, you sorry excuse of a man." a new voice sounded from the wall of the ally. The ground cracked as he stepped from the shadow. Anger coating his expression as he locked eyes with the male.
"Is she though? Murdered her parents, left the boy she loved with nothing but a small kiss. Dropped contact with him, became an assassin, killed more than any member of her organization. All within five years. Her last act, attempting to assassinate her fiance. Running away, causing problems, nearly losing control of her own ability. Betraying her organization by cheating them out of the fee she owed them. When confronted, she took the opportunity to slip away from her boring life as a detective. Went back to killing, stole my money to buy herself shit. Manipulated everybody around her. Then today, unable to cope with her emotions came out to kill. Of course, having expected that I followed her." the shock within everybody but Dazai and Chuuya made him chuckle even as his legs gave out from the blood loss. "Oh, did she never tell you how much of a monster she was?"
Dazai's hand twitched by his side, raising his gun, the blank look of hate he'd worn so often as an executive of the port mafia coated every inch of his expression. Chuuya shivered lightly as he bent down to hold (Y/n) in his arms. Lightly pressing her head to his chest, he ran a hand over her cheek gently. Shielding her from the scene that was unstoppable by the point. "If she's a monster, that makes me the devil." Dazai's words were the last thing the man heard before a bang pierced the air. The bullet stopped at his forehead, its position changing so it only grazed his cheek.
"Don't do something... stupid." the female's glove was hardly off her fingers as she coughed the sentence out. Shocking Dazai who could only chuckle with amusement. He'd said the same words to her moments before she left. "As much as I want him dead, you should... keep promises." her eyes were starting to drop shut within Chuuya's arms. Dazai wanted nothing more than to hold her to. He knew he couldn't though. Not if he wanted her to live.
"We'll pretend to never have heard anything about her past job." it went against all his morals, but Kunikida was willing to do this. He'd do it once, never again though.
Setting the gun down, Dazai sent a right hook at (Y/n)'s ex. "That was completely justified," he grumbled, dusting off his hands as he glanced at the female laying within Chuuya's arms. His eyes softened as he glanced at Chuuya.
"Tch, it's up to her." the ginger grumbled standing up, he handed her to the doctor of the agency. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he leaped off the ground. Jumping to the rooftop he headed back towards the mafia HQ.

It took an entire four days before her (e/c) eyes opened to the bright light of her room. Rubbing her eyes with the back of her hands, she noticed her body was still coated in blood. Looking around, she spotted Dazai laying with his arms crossed, his head laying on them as he slept. Moving around, she stirred him. His eyes opened slowly before he sat straight up. "You're awake." his eyes showed relief as he grabbed her hand. Running his finger over her skin. He'd been longing to hold her since he'd seen her in the ally.
"I need a shower..." she mumbled as Dazai let go of her hand and nodded. Moving away from her bed, he helped her stand. Her body nearly collapsed under its own weight. Groaning, she puffed her cheeks out. "This sucks." she huffed leaning against Dazai for support. He walked her to the large restroom. He helped her take a seat on the side of the tub. Not staying to ask, he slipped out and opted to wait, leaning against the wall, just in case she needed help.
Finishing her shower, the female slipped from the door still slightly off balance. Dazai helped her into one of the spare rooms without a word. He left her on the spare bed before going to strip her bed. He cleaned up for her before taking a shower himself. Running a hand through his hair, he walked back to her room. "Hungry?" he asked, waiting for her response. She nodded slightly as Dazai left to make food. "Oh no you don't, you'll burn the house down. You suck at cooking Dazai." the female stared at him, observing as his shoulders moved in time with a light chuckle.
"Promise I won't burn the kitchen down." Dazai snickered looking back at her with a soft smile. She sighed and nodded before falling onto her side.
"I need more time." Dazai knew what she meant by that, and he respected her decision.

Over the next month, the female slipped back into her usual pattern. It was as if nothing had changed in the agency. She went out to hang around Chuuya and occasionally went drinking with dazai. She was starting to forget about everything that happened.
Four months passed before she was ready to make her decision. Walking up to --------- she smiled. Her face a deep crimson as she fiddled with a few strands of hair. "I made my decision," she mumbled looking at him, she lifted her head and pulled the other male in for a short kiss.
