"oh my Lord this is so good!" you exclaimed taking a mouthful of the barbecue chicken covering the plate in front of you.

"aw well I'm glad you like it!" Tommy's mum replied happily

Tommy chuckled quietly at you and whispered "suck up"

you looked down at your plate and kicked him under the table causing him to help slightly.

"are you all right tom?" his mum asked confused

"yea.. hot innit" he mumbled under his breath.

you struggled not to laugh as he began blowing on every bite of his food to prove a point.

once you had eaten enough food to last a week, you excused yourself from the table to use the bathroom. when you came back you heard Tommy's dad talking to him about you whilst his mum loaded the dishwasher.

"I reckon she's a good lass, good appetite on 'er as well kid, she's a keeper"

"well thanks for the input I guess dad"

"she seems like the kinda lass who would treat you well if you treated her right." he continued "like your mother, if I have a go at her she'll 'ave a go back, and she'll win" he chuckled "but treat her right and she's sweet as a daisy"

"right, yea okay. " Tommy replied awkwardly

you decided to walk In at that moment to help him avoid more "girl talk" with his dad. but you couldn't help feeling happy his dad liked you. not that it mattered all that much, since the relationship would only last a month and you would get a nice, day long shopping trip out of it. no physical or mental attraction to Tommy in any way.

"hi!" you smiled as you took you seat next to Tommy again.

he gave you a releived look that said "great timing"

"so y/n?" his dad asked you sounding curious, "what do your parents do?"

"oh well my dad left home about 4 years ago, but my mums a vet, we also foster and rehome baby animals and rescue animals when we can."

"aw thats so sweet" Tommy's mum said walking back into the room. "have you met Betty and Walter yet?"

"no I don't believe I have"

"oh I forgot I put them out back 'cuz I didn't know if you were a dog person or not" Tommy chirped up

"well duh I'm a dog person, who wouldn't be?"

all three of them laughed at your statement.

"well I'll go get them then shall i?" Tommy asked standing up

"yes, and bring the treats too" his mum replied.

he nodded and left the room.

"so you said your mums a vet y/n?" his dad asked

"uh yea, works down at Alex & bakers vetcare. our family is nuts about animals"

"I can tell. are you fostering any animals right now?"

"yea! actually we have a couple puppies that are looking for new homes. we have delighla the 18 month old Australian Shepherd, johnny the 14 month old staffie, and Oli, a Collie puppy we don't know how old he is, probably about 8 to 14 months."

"awe so you have got your hands full huh?" Tommy's mum questioned

"yea, lots of mouths to feed, especially alongside Alex and Hekakiah, my two dogs."

"what breeds are they?"

"Alex is a golden retriever, and Hekakiah is an Alaskan malamute."

"and what a name he has too!" Tommy's dad said laughing, "Hekakiah, where in the world did that come from?"

"honestly I have no idea, I just think it's a cool name and when I saw him for the first time I thought, yep this is my dog, my dog Hekakiah."

"here comes trouble!" Tommy yelled through the door. it opened and two barrels of energy came rushing into the room and sniffed everything before making there way over to you and letting you stroke them.

"aw they're sweet, did you say they were called Betty and Walter?"

"yep"

you played with the two dogs for another few minutes before mentioning to Tommy you should probably go.

"oh right!" he said "let me grab a hoodie and we can skedaddle"

"alright love" you replied following him up the stairs to grab your trainers from his room where he had hidden them.

"hey you want a hoodie?" he asked after you pulled on your trainers.

"what?" you asked confused "I didn't bring a hoodie

"I know dumbass, I meant one of mine" he said laughing

"oh! right, well no thank you, I'm okay" you smiled

"whatever you say woman"
