My alarm blared in my ears as I gasped myself awake. A groan left my mouth as I smacked it off. I threw my blanket over my head and hoped to get five more minutes of sleep, but I was quickly disturbed by my phone ringing.

"Ugh," I groaned while picking it up. "Hello?"

"You up?" Jordan's voice echoed through the other end.

I rubbed my eyes. "Yeah, but I wanna sleep."

"No, you can't go back to sleep. We need you if we wanna win today, okay? I'll be there in ten minutes." He explained.

I sighed. "Fine. See you soon."

"Bye." He replied before hanging up.

I pushed my hair off of my face and felt Sparky shuffling around by my feet. I sat up and scratched his head.

"Morning, bud." I yawned. "You're lucky you get to sleep in."

He blinked his eyes tiredly and I kissed his head before hopping out of my warm bed. The cold air surrounded me and I just wanted to hop back into bed so bad, but I knew that if I did, Jordan would give me a hard time, so I just let it go.

My feet dragged me to my closet as I picked out a pair of light blue jeans, a baby blue t-shirt, and my black P.F Flyers. I walked to my bathroom and slicked my hair into a ponytail before slipping on my baseball hat. I fulfilled all of my hygiene necessities and grabbed my black backpack.

I stuffed my phone, candy, water, my sensor pack to check my blood sugar and pump insulin into my body, my glove, and an extra ball. It slung over my shoulders as I ran downstairs. I shoved an apple in my mouth as I ran outside to meet Jordan.

"Wow, I didn't think you would make it in time." He chuckled lightly.

I laughed while taking the apple out of my mouth. "There's a lot of things you don't know about me."

Oh, if only you knew my biggest secret.

Another chuckle left his mouth as he hopped on his bike. "Come on."

I hopped behind him and took a bite out of my apple. The light breeze blew hair through the air as the sun bounced off my skin, making it hot. Jordan's friends quickly joined us and I paid no attention to them. I hated them and they hated me.

We arrived at our field and I hopped off my bike while setting it by the entrance. I took the last bite out of my apple and threw the core in the garbage. Jordan's hand slipped into mine as I scooted closer to him.

"You think we're gonna win?" He asked.

"I know we are." I nodded. "Benny and those rejects have no chance."

A smirk plastered his face. "Definitely."

I smiled and felt his lips quickly press onto mine. I sat in our dugout and got myself settled. Suddenly, my sensor started beeping, telling me that my blood sugar was low. Oh, shit.

Jordan's eyes darted to me. "What was that?"

"Um," I awkwardly scratched the back of my neck. "It was just my phone."

A hum croaked in his throat. "Oh, okay."

He went back to talking with his friends and I quickly snuck some candy out of my bag. Jordan's hand suddenly snatched the last piece out of my hand.

"Thanks." He laughed while stuffing it in his mouth.

My eyes rolled, but I didn't argue with him. I fidgeted with my finger when I heard voices echo through the field. Ugh, Benny's here.

His laugh bubbled through the air as his bat swung in his hand, his glove in the other. My eyes rolled once again as I kept my gaze off of him. Why can't the world just open a hole and get rid of him?

I looked up for a split second to see Benny's eyes burn into mine. Knowing he had been caught, he stuck his tongue out at me and let out a snicker. I flipped him off and looked back down at my busted-up glove.

A small smile painted my lips as my finger traced over the name "𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑦" in worn-out ink. This was the only thing I had left of my mom before she passed away a few years ago. I always promised her that I would try my best with baseball, even if she wasn't there to see me.

Suddenly, someone ripped the glove out of my hands. I gasped and realized it was Benny. He examined it and his eyebrow raised in confusion.

"What's so special about this? It's just a stupid glove." He scoffed.

"It's not stupid." I snarled while ripping the glove out of his hands. "This is the only thing I have left of my mom. If you destroy it, I'll bash your head in with a hammer."

His eyes widened slightly as he tried to keep a brave face on. "Chill. I didn't mean any harm."

I rolled my eyes and pushed him out of my way. He stumbled away and I heard a small scoff leave his mouth.

"What's your problem?" He suddenly piped up.

I froze in my tracks and slowly turned to face him. "What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you?"

He scoffed once again. "Nothing's wrong with me, that's why I'm asking you."

I was about to scream at him, but Jordan quickly butted in.

"Back off, Rodriguez." He grumbled. "Let's go, Em."

He grabbed my wrist before dragging me away from him. A long huff left my mouth and I just wanted to punch Benny in his stupid, smug face.

"Don't listen to him." Phillips's arm lightly wrapped around my shoulders. "He's a dork."

I nodded. "I know he is. I just wish he would mind his own business."

A sigh left his mouth. "Yeah, me too."

He gave my cheek a quick kiss before letting me go. I sighed softly and tightened my ponytail. Let's do this.
