Phillips's hand swooped into mine as we started walking down the sidewalk. I looked at my feet as they lightly tapped the cement.
"So," Phillips piped up. "How's your head?"
My shoulders shrugged. "It's okay. It still hurts though."
He nodded slowly. "Yeah. Maddie's a real asshole."
I nodded back. "Tell me about it. I can't believe Benny is dating her."
"Well, we don't like him, so he sorta deserves to be with someone as horrible as him." He smirked.
I laughed. "Yeah, that's true."
We continued talking about whatever and ended up at the sandlot. I tugged Jordan back, but he wouldn't budge.
"Come on." He waved me over.
"Jordan, no." I shook my head. "I don't wanna be here."
His eyes rolled. "Oh, stop being such a buzzkill. Come on."
I hesitated, but eventually gave in. We walked onto their field and surprisingly, it was empty. Jordan looked around and I nervously stood by the entrance.
"Jordan..." I whispered. "Jordan!"
"What?!" He shot back.
"Let's go." I waved him over. "Please?"
He ignored my question and looked at the big treehouse that was by the field. He bolted over to it, making me chase after him.
"Jordan!" I shouted.
He kept running up the steps and I eventually caught up to him. I panted as I peeked my head inside, my eyes immediately going wide. Benny and Maddie were sitting on the window ledge, practically sucking each other's faces off.
"Ew..." I whispered.
Their heads spun to face us and Benny just looked scared. Maddie, on the other hand, had a disgusted look on her face.
"Came to watch the show, huh?" She hopped down from the ledge. "Little perverts."
I shook my head. "Of course not. I tried to stop Jordan."
"Oh, shut up, blondie." She scoffed while poking my chest. "I know why you were here."
My eyes rolled. "That's not the reason why. I would rather poke my eyes out than watch you guys make out."
Jordan nodded. "I agree. That was scary..."
She rolled her eyes. "Get out of here, pigs."
"Maddie..." Benny sighed softly. "Stop."
"What?" She shook her head. "Why do you care about them so much?"
"They didn't mean to." He defended us. "Just let them go."
She huffed. "Oh, yeah? Well, if you care soooo much about them, then you won't care if I do this!"
She suddenly pushed me backward, making me lose my balance and fall over the railing. I screamed as I felt like I was falling for ages. Eventually, I hit the ground, the wind getting knocked right out of me.
"Emmy!" Phillips's panicked voice shouted down to me.
I heard his footsteps pound down the steps as he ran over to me. He knelt next to me and shook my shoulders.
"Emmy." He panted. "Emmy, come on."
I whimpered lightly and coughed for air. I saw Maddie smirking down at me and Benny swallowed nervously. He whispered something to her, making her get annoyed.
They started arguing about something, but I didn't listen. Jordan squeezed my face lightly.
"Em, you okay?"
"Mhm..." I hummed lightly.
He sighed and stood me up on my feet. He wrapped an arm around my waist and I wrapped one around his shoulders.
Maddie scoffed. "Have fun, pervs!"
Benny shook his head. "Shut up."
Her eyes widened. "Don't tell me to shut up!"
Before he could say anything back, she slapped him right across the face. I gasped lightly, but secretly loved that she did that.
"Asshole!" She shouted at him.
He rubbed his cheek and watched her storm away. She purposely bumped into me and grunted.
"Fuck all of you!" She screamed as she walked away, holding up both of her middle fingers.
My eyes rolled. "Come on."
Jordan and I started walking away as I felt Benny's eyes burn the back of my head. Finally, he got what he deserved.

My head was pounding with a horrible headache. It was already bruised from yesterday and the fall didn't make it any better. Luckily, I was still alive.
"Why was Benny being so nice today?" I asked.
Phillips's shoulders shrugged. "I don't know. It was weird though."
I nodded. "Yeah. I thought he would've been laughing his ass off at me."
"Same." Jordan agreed. "He's never been nice to us, like, ever."
"True..." I mumbled. "Eh, whatever. He might've been high or something."
Jordan laughed. "Probably."
I kissed him before looking back at my phone. His chin rested on my shoulder as he examined what I was doing.
"Holy shit." He laughed. "Look."
He was pointing to an account on Instagram. I observed it closer and saw that it was Benny's.
"Oh, shit." I laughed back.
"Click on it." He demanded.
I obeyed and clicked on his account. It was mostly baseball things and a few pictures of him and Maddie. His first photo was posted back in 2019 and it was a picture of him and his friends. That was before he was dating Maddie and he looked so much happier. His expression was so off in the pictures that he was with Maddie.
Phillips suddenly double-tapped the photo, causing him to like it. I gasped and my eyes darted to him. He held back his laugh and I could've knocked him out right there.
"What the hell?!" I shouted. "Do you realize what you just did?!"
"What?" He defended. "Just unlike it. It's not that hard."
"Yeah, but Benny will still see it!" I groaned.
His eyes rolled before he unliked the photo. "See? He won't care anyway."
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever."
Suddenly, someone knocked on Jordan's door and swung it open before he would say anything. It was his older brother, Grayson.
"Hey, dick weed," He started. "It's time for dinner."
Jordan groaned. "I'm coming, asshole."
Grayson snickered and flipped me off before walking back downstairs. I rolled my eyes once more before grabbing my stuff and leaving his house.
