I sped up my pace as I was approaching the sandlot. I didn't wanna interact with any of them, so I kept my head down. Please don't see me, please don't see me.

Something hard suddenly landed by my foot and I looked down at it. It was just a baseball. As I picked it up, I heard footsteps pounding towards me.

"Ugh!" Maddie groaned. "Ball thief!"

"What?" I mumbled in confusion.

"Don't steal our ball!" She shrieked while snatching it out of my hands.

"I didn't steal it!" I spat. "One of you rejects probably hit it over here!"

Her eyes rolled. "We're not rejects, you are! At least I'm not dating Jordan!"

"Don't talk about my boyfriend like that!" I shouted. "Benny is a lot worse than Jordan!"

Her head shook violently. "No, he's amazing! You're just jealous!"

I gasped. "Jealous?! Bitch, that's the last thing I would be! He can go die for all I care!"

She screamed in anger. "Shut up, asshole!"

Her hands shoved me harshly, but I kept myself on my feet. I put my fists up.

"Wanna fight little girl?" I smirked. "Or are you too much of a pussy?"

She swallowed nervously but awkwardly put her hands up.

"Come on." I kept smirking. "Hit me."

"Um..." She mumbled,."I-I will..."

"Hit me, bitch!" I shouted. "Come on!"

She shrieked and I saw Benny run behind her. She acted all scared and gripped onto his arm.

"What's happening over here?!" He panted.

Maddie whimpered. "I was just trying to get our ball back, but then this psycho threatened to hit me!"

Benny looked at me as I put my fists down. "Is that true?"

"No matter what I say, you're still gonna believe her." I shrugged. "So, yeah, kinda."

His jaw clenched. "Leave her alone, and don't you dare come back here."

I shook my head. "Wasn't planning on it, bud."

"Fuck off." Benny snarled. "Let's go, Mads."

His arm wrapped around her waist, but she immediately ripped it off.

"I'm not done yet." She chuckled.

I smirked. "You ready to fight now, pussy?"

She suddenly snatched the ball out of Benny's hand and it flew at my head. Before I could react, it pounded onto my head. I shrieked before falling to the hard pavement.

Maddie laughed hysterically. "That's what you get, bitch!"

I groaned and was surprised that Benny wasn't laughing. Instead, he looked...nervous?

"Wasn't that funny?" Maddie asked him.

He just stood there, looking at me. "Um...we should go."

She gasped. "You're not gonna give me any credit for that?!"

"Let's go..." He mumbled while grabbing her hand.

She shouted angrily at him while they walked back onto the field. Ugh, her voice is so annoying. I picked myself back up and held a hand on my head. Damn.

I stumbled inside my house and tried to avoid my dad, who was sitting on the couch. I almost arrived at the stairs, but he caught me.

"Oh, hey, honey." He said while standing up.

"Hey..." I mumbled quietly as I kept my eyes off of him.

"Is something wrong?" He asked.

I shook my head. "Nope...everything's fine."

I could tell he was suspicious of me. "Emmy, what are you hiding?"

I sighed softly. I'm not gonna get away with this.

"Emmy." His voice was stern. "Show me."

I huffed but obeyed him. I slowly turned around, revealing the huge bruise on my head.

He gasped. "Geez, what happened?"

My eyes rolled. "Maddie was being a jerk."

He examined it closer. "Hm...I never liked her."

My head nodded in agreement. "Same."

"Well..." He sighed. "It doesn't look too bad, so that's good."

"Yeah..." I shrugged. "It just hurts a lot."

"I understand." He patted my shoulder. "Why don't you go take a shower and get some rest, okay? Sparky's probably waiting for you."

I chuckled. "Alright. Love you."

He kissed my cheek lightly. "Love you too."

I then ran upstairs and into my room. Sparky was sleeping peacefully on my bed and his eyes slowly blinked open. His tail started wagging when he saw me.

"Hi, buddy." I smiled. "Did you miss me?"

He licked his nose happily, making a small giggle leave my mouth. "I missed you too."

I kissed his head before hopping into the shower.

My phone buzzed in my ear, making me pick it up. It was a message from Jordan.

Jordan
"What the hell happened with you and Maddie today?"

Emmy
"She was being an asshole."

Jordan
"She said you punched her."

Emmy
"What?! No, I didn't! She threw a fucking baseball at me! I didn't do shit!"

Jordan
"Okay, calm down, damn."

Emmy
"You seriously believe her?"

Jordan
"Well...no, but I just wanted to make sure."

Emmy
"Just ask Benny, he was there. He saw the whole thing."

Jordan
"I know, okay? I was just making sure."

Emmy
"Alright then. I'm gonna go to sleep, but I'll see you tomorrow, right?"

Jordan
"Of course. I love you <3."

Emmy
"Love you too."

I set my phone back down and groaned. Maddie is such an asshole.
