I guess I could say that I was upset that Benny still hadn't come to apologize to me. How could he be so selfish? Did he not care about how I felt anymore?

I realized that I sounded like a pick-me girl. I let out a long sigh and placed my head on Sparky's side.

"At least I still have you." I smiled.

He yawned. I scratched behind his ears before getting up to use the bathroom.

Once I was done, I washed my hands and started making my way to my room but a loud crash made me freeze in place.

I heard Sparky whimpering and a quiet "Ah, fuck...shit."

I recognized that voice.

My eyebrow furrowed in anger when I saw Benny standing in my room. He was wiping off his dusty jeans before looking up at me.

"Uh, hi-"

I cut him off while shutting my door. "What the hell are you doing here?"

He fiddled with something that was in his belt. "I came to return this."

He pulled out my mom's glove that I used for baseball. I hadn't even realized that I left it there. I'm sorry, Mom.

"Oh..." I muttered as I snatched it out of his hands. "Thanks."

He nodded. "Of course. And I came to apologize."

"Why are you apologizing now?" I snapped. "You've had almost three days now."

"I know." he agreed. "But you haven't been answering your phone."

I closed my eyes in realization. "Oh, right. Yeah, sorry. My Dad took my phone away because of the fight and banned me from going to the sandlot for a week."

He frowned. "Oh, I'm sorry."

"Whatever." I sassed. "Why haven't you apologized to me yet?"

He sighed. "I just didn't know what to say. And I was too scared to confront you."

I scoffed. "Yeah. There's not much you can say to someone you used because of their dead Mom."

He swallowed. "I'm so sorry, Emmy. You know I wouldn't do that to you."

"Then why did you say it?" I muttered while looking down at the floor.

He slowly sat on my bed and I found myself copying this action.

"Because..." he hesitated for a moment. "Because Maddie told me horrible things about you and I stupidly believed her."

I looked at his somber face. He looked like he was genuinely sorry.

He looked back at me. "She told me to befriend you then use your Mom against you later. I was going to...but then I saw how much of a great person you were. And I knew I was better than that."

"I would never forgive myself if I did use you. No one would forgive me." he looked back ahead. "So, I broke things off with her before she made me escalate things with you."

I swallowed. "I don't really know what to say..."

"It's okay," he reassured. "I don't expect you to forgive me right away, but just know that I never meant to hurt you, I promise."

He stared at me with sparkles in his eyes. "I'm sorry, Emmy."

He then stood up, looked back at me, then started walking back toward my window.

"Wait," I announced. "I forgive you."

He looked over his shoulder again. "Really?"

"Yes." I nodded. "I do, I promise. I know you didn't mean any harm. I know you're not that kind of person."
