"Where am I?" I ask as soon as my eyes open to an unfamiliar place.
"She's up," I hear a girl shout.
"Can you not?" I sarcastically respond, "Who are you?"
"The name's Fern," a pixie-cut, blonde haired girl spoke in response, ignoring my first and second question.
"As in the plant?" I giggle.
She rolled her eyes, "Yes, like the plant. So you're Sarah, right?"
"Yes," I started to sit up. I was laying down in a cot, and there was one to my right and to my left. "So where am I?"
"Do you remember what happened to you last night?" she asks. Fern started hovering over me. She looks down at me, concerned.
The minute she asked my mind went crazy remembering every little detail of that terrible night.
"That was real?" I asked. Last night, Luke, Dad, that hurtful stick, and what overpowered everything was the coat of betrayal that Luke had worn.
Fern started, "Not sure what all happened, but for sure Chief - your dad - came with you around midnight. He said you were hurt, so now your here in the infirmary."
I just looked at her and processed it for a minute. "My dad! Where is he?" I said way to loud.
"Chief!" Fern shouted. Why was she calling "Chief" I just wanted my dad.
Then the big, bulky man that claimed to be my father last night walked in the room.
"Dad!" I yelled. I tried to stand up, but my foot protested. I screamed in agony. I had totally forgotten of my injured foot.
He ran straight for me as Fern tried to get me to lay back down.
One or two black spots started clouding my vision. "Fern, go get some ice and the medicine," my father ordered in a quite voice.
She ran off, looking as if she was searching for something the she would never find and wouldn't come back until she found it, but she was back within a minute with a pack of ice in one hand and a small white bag. She quickly handed the ice the my father, and then she focussed back on the bag. Fern immediately searched through it and pulled out a needle and something else.
I realized that I was crying. The tears just falling down through the pain. I saw a needle. Not a needle. Anything but needles. I cringed away from Fern. I looked back at her face. It was as if she was the one who was about to get a shot, not the one giving it. She didn't like putting other people in pain. Fern seemed so kind. I felt something cold and wet brush over my forearm.
"I'm so sorry," Fern gently said. I heard he fiddle with the needle. "Get ready... three, two, one," she said. When she spoke one, she inserted the needle into my forearm. I started to screamed, but my father's hand covered my mouth. I started to feel more relaxed instantly. Feeling the medicine kick in, slow down everything until I was out.
