He was still facing the woods when he said, "My name is..." There was a certain familularity in his voice, yet it was coated with something completely and utterly unfamiliar. I didn't have time to process it completely because all of a sudden I could hear footsteps coming from deeper in the woods. First quiet, and then gradually louder. All the time the boy-I was sure of it now-hadn't moved an inch-except for his breathing.
"Sarah!" I hear a voice yell from in the woods. I would know that voice anywhere. The voice that was only a memory from my childhood. My father's voice. I inhaled.
I took a step forward, my right foot inside of the woods.
I exhaled.
"Sarah, don't do this!" the boy yelled. The boy was Luke.
"Luke?" I demanded, "Why? It's my dad!"
"He's the enemy!" Luke shouted.
"No, you're wrong," I said almost so quietly that it could be a whisper.
"Sarah," my dad said, "Come on we've got to go now."
I quickly walked into the woods and stood right next to my dad.
Immediately Luke reached into his pocket and pulled something out. I could faintly see the outline of what looked like a stick bent, but it was black, shinny, and a lot thicker than a stick. "What is that?" I demand.
"Oh this old thing?" Like pointed the longer part of it towards the sky and pressed against another smaller, curved stick that was also black and shinny. All of a sudden there was a loud booming sound, but it was not thunder. It followed with a high pitched ringing.
"What is that?" I tried to say, but it sounded like I was underwater.
"Sarah," my father said. His voice sounded underwater too, yet there was no water, "Go further into the woods. I'm coming right after you."
Then Luke smirked and pointed the shinny, black stick-thing at my father. His finger went towards the other shinny stick that let off the sound. My instincts came in just as Luke's finger pushed the stick. I ran in front of my father and Luke pointed the stick towards the ground. But I could already tell I was going to get hurt. I heard screaming and ringing again. I think most of the screaming came from me as I felt like my right foot had just been shattered. I heard yelling, still underwater. My vision started to get covered with black spots. Finally They took over.
I had all of my senses except for sight. Someone had their arm over my shoulder and their left side was glued to my right side. It must have been my father.
The high-pitched ringing was broken when my father said, "Sarah, you gotta help me." I realized after he said that that I wasn't walking at all. He was just dragging me slowly along with him. So I started with my left foot, then my right-all of my wind had been knocked out of me. I heard myself cry out in pain. My vision cleared up just about all of the way.
I heard my father say, "Almost there, baby girl. Almost there." I nodded in reply as I felt my body thump onto something. I didn't care if it was a a bed or a chair; it could have been the ground for all I care. My eyelids closed like a dark curtain over my world.
