They sat in at the front of the coffee house by the window, the tables in the shop were small so their knees lightly grazed each other. The sun shining brightly onto her, making her skin glow slightly. It was then Steve had the chance to properly take her in.

She wore a black pencil skirt that went below her knees, but hugged every inch of her curves, a cream coloured blouse that tied at the neck and a pair of black closed toe heels to go with it. Her hair was pinned up now, but small stands dangled in front of her face.

Their conversation flowed so easily and at times they would forget their coffees were getting cold because of all the talking.

"So, what's this interview for if you don't mind me asking?" Steve questioned her. Her face seemed to light up a little and she sat you straight, "it's an assistant position for this historian who works for the MET museum, it's sounds like a small job, but he can get me in with the right people around here that can elevate me higher...hopefully" she expressed passionately.

Steve nodded his head at her excitement "so you like history?" The smile on her face only widened. "Yeah, so I specialise in 1950s culture and social events but I also look into the Vietnam war" Steve was taken a back, he always favoured intelligence in a woman, something about it was extremely attractive to him.

"That's really impressive...sorry I got frozen over ten years too early, I couldn't been some use to you?" He laughed, leaning in towards her.

(Y/n) shook her head sarcastically "honestly Captain, really needed you when I was writing those college essays, how dare you" she joked.

Steve hadn't realised how long he'd been smiling, until now. Something about her made him feel lighter, like he could chill and just talk, his shoulders had been so tense before but now they had relaxed, just like him.

"What college did you go to?" He asked "I never got to go so I'd like to hear about the experience"

She bit her lip slightly and turned her head to look outside, rain started to lightly pattern on the window pane. "I went to Columbia, but dropped out in my 3rd year."

"Why'd you drop out?"

As she went to answer, they were interrupted by a the ring of her phone.

"Sorry, excuse me one second Steve" she motioned to her phone and he nodded understandingly.

"Hello?"

It's like her mood kind of dropped, that perfectly content smile was gone and all of sudden a guard was up.

"Ok" was all she said before she hang up.

"Is everything ok?" He asked carefully.

(Y/n) grabbed the napkin that was placed next to Steve's coffee and a pen out of her bag and began frantically writing something down.

"This is my number, call me and maybe we can do something like this again? Please?" Confused Steve took it from her and she quickly grabbing her things, heading for the door of the coffee shop.

He followed after her "Hey wait! What's wrong (Y/n)?"

She stood outside the shop, looking at him, he couldn't understand what the sudden change in her was, they were having a great time together, had he offended her? Was it the interview? Had he made her late?

"Promise me you'll call me?" She sounded like she was begging "I still need to give you your jacket back"

Steve just nodded, hoping it would reassure her in some way.

A cough came from behind them "(Y/n), who's this, honey?"

Almost automatically, she was at his side. He was tall, about the same height as Steve, dark black hair and dressed in formal business attire. He smirked at her as he snaked his arm around her waist, giving her waist and leant down to give her a kiss on her cheek.

"Joe, this is my friend, Captain Steve Rogers, Steve, this is Joseph Prescott, my fiancé"

"Good to meet you, Cap"
