****WARNING THIS CHAPTER HAS A LOT OF PROFANITY AND EXTREME DRAMA (like wow, soap opera status- just a heads up)
“Double shot espresso with a white caramel mocha,” I called out over my shoulder as I set the two cups on the counter.
Today had been extremely busy. Even with Mason and Neil working with me today, we were barely scraping by.
“Uhm, excuse me,” said a nasally voice.
I closed my eyes to calm myself in advance. Sometimes…you just know when certain people will test your self-control.
“Yes, ma’am?” I smiled sweetly.
“Which one is which?” she flailed her bracelet clad hand around in the direction of the two cups, one of which I clearly marked with a capital “M”.
“The one marked with an “M” is the white caramel mocha,” I clenched my fists in annoyance when I heard the click of her tongue in response.
“You should label more clearly for future reference,” and then she had the audacity to call me hon as she grabbed the drinks and walked out.
“Did you just hear that?” I spat out at Mason who was switching out the filter for the decaf coffee.
“Mhmm, and can I just say how proud I am? You’re a total professional,” he nodded his head.
“I should label more clearly as if the white capital “M” on her lid was too confusing,” I began wiping the counters vigorously.
I had been working for five hours and I still had three more to go. Today was absolute hell, not to mention I had a six page analysis to write later.
“Hey, Mas- holy shit. What did the counter do?” even Neil’s angelic voice couldn’t bring me out of this pissy mood.
“Don’t as-“
“I guess I’m just not qualified enough to properly label things,” I cut off Mason.
However, there was a loud bang from across the room before anyone could reply. I looked up and saw the book shelf sprawled on the ground with all of its contents spilled on the floor.
“Oh Jesus, here we go,” I heard Mason mumble.
“What. Is. Happening?” I hissed before stomping over and attempted to reassure the business man who stood around the mess like he had no fault in the mess.
“I don’t know what happened, honestly,” I nodded in response as I began picking up the books and sorted them in piles. “It just fell over on its own,” oh I’m sure that’s what happened. I bit back my snappy response that was dying to come out. “It’s quite the safety hazard, you should definitely get something done about that,” and with that statement he walked out only before narrowly missing my pinky finger.
“Asshole,” I muttered.
“Excuse me?” I looked up to find an old lady glaring down at me. “That sort of language is inappropriate for such a professional place,” she turned her nose so I could see how far up a bug could fly into her nostrils.
But I froze, still on my hands and knees, and stared at her in disbelief. She did realize that we’re in a damn coffee shop, right?
“I apolog-“
“I shall inform your manager immediately of this,” and she stood up like she had the power of god sewed in her pencil skirt and stormed up to our assistant manager.
