24. Blind

"Y/N? I'm home!" You hear him call as the door closes behind him.

"I'm in the living room!" You call back and you hear his footstep approach you.

"Hey babe." He says softly and you know he's crouched down in front of you. You smile and lean in for a kiss. He gives you a gentle kiss. "Hey." You softly reply after the kiss.

The sofa shifts and Niall sits down beside you putting his arm around you and his fingers lightly play with your hair on your shoulders. The two of you talk about your day for a while.

"Liam's having a barbeque tonight."

"Oh?"

"Yeah. The boys will be there, Little Mix, Sophia, Beth."

"Sounds like fun! Did you tell him we'll go?" You ask, looking forward to it already.

"Not yet. I thought I'd check with you first." Came his careful answer.

"Niall." You sigh. "I know you worry, but you don't have to. I've been to there before. I'll be fine. Don't worry." You hear him sigh quietly. "Besides," you continue, "you and Beth will be there to take care of me."

He hesitates a moment, "Okay. I'll tell Liam."

~~At the Liam's~~

"Hey guys! Glad you could make it!" Liam greets you and Niall with hugs. "Everyone's out back."

Outside Niall guides you in introductions. One tap on your back = a handshake, two taps = a hug and three taps = neither. Of course you hug the boys, Perrie, and Sophia, all of whom you've met before. But for the first time you're metting Jesy, Jade, and Leigh-Anne.

"Hey!" Beth greets you coming up beside you. "How are you doing?"

"Good." As your best friend, Beth had become very adept at being you eyes and gives you a good picture of what the backyard looks like.

"Babe, I'm gonna go kick the football around with Louis for a bit. You'll be alright here?"

"Of course. Go. Have fun!" He agrees a bit reluctantly but after giving you a quick kiss he leaves.

You chat with different people for a while, before sitting and talking to Perrie, Zayn, and Jade, while Beth goes to help Harry with something.

"Burgers are done!" Liam announces.

"Oh." You stand uncertainly. You start to head toward to where the sound of Liam's voice came from but trip over something and fall, hitting your head on a table on the way down. You lay still for a second, stunned.

"Are you alright?" and a series of concerned questions come from the group.

"I'm fine." You answer as someone helps you sit up. "Thank you."

"Let me give you a hand." says Liam. And you assume he holds a hand out for you to hold.

Reluctantly you stretch your hand out searching for his but you only hit empty air. But then your hands meet and he pulls you up. You stumble a little as you stand, still a bit shaken.

"Y/N? Are you alright?" You can hear the concern in Niall's voice and feel his steady hand on the small of your back.

You turn to him with a shaky smile. "I'll be alright." You pause sensing everyone still around you and you raise your voice. "Now, how about some food?!" Their attention shift off you and back to the food.

~~A little while later~~

Everyone's hanging around, eating, you presume. Then Harry says to you, "Y/N I have to show you this picture of Beth. It's funny, you'll love it."

"Uh, Harry, she can't...." Beth stops, unsure of how to stop him with out giving away your secret.

"It's okay Beth. I won't be able to see it Harry." You say and Niall gives you a comforting squeeze.

"What do you mean? Of course you can see it, here." You asume he's holding out his phone for you to see.

"No Harry, you don't understand. I can't see at all. I'm blind."

The rooms hushes. "Oh." Harry utters, obviously shocked. "Sorry, I didn't know."

"I didn't want anyone to know, at first. I didn't want you to treat me like I was different, weird, any less than anyone less." Niall kisses your temple.

"I know we just met," Perrie starts, "but I think you're amazing. To face a challenge like that and not let it get you down or make you mean or what ever, you're incredible. I had no idea."

"Thank you."
