Chapter 14: Graduation

     (Y/N) opened his eyes and looked at the bed above him. He stared with a blank expression and thought hard. How should he confront the six he would pick? What would he say? How would he keep them from finding out the shifters identities?

"(Y/N), can we talk to you?" Reiner asked as he stood next to Bertholdt.

"Yeah," (Y/N) said getting out of his bed, he rubbed his eyes and stood up all the way. They led him out of the room and into the hallway. Reiner stopped and turned to (Y/N). Bertholdt looked around and made sure no one would sneak up on them.

"Whose side are you on?" Reiner asked.

"Marley's,"

"After what happened with Marco I'm starting to wonder,"

"Might I remind you I wasn't a warrior like you guys,"

"You're our friend,"

"If I let our secret out would you try to kill me like you did Marco?"

"Don't say that,"

"We trained with Marco for three years, you we're gonna kill him without a second thought,"

"Wait- What? I-I was gonna k-kill him?" Reiner held his head in his hands and Bertholdt looked away.

"Why are you confused?"

"Why would I kill a fellow soldier?" Reiner looked at (Y/N) and pushed him slightly.

"Don't push me Reiner, you know what you did,"

"You're accusing me of something I didn't do," He pushed (Y/N) again.

"I saw the look in your eyes, you wanted to kill him," (Y/N) said. Bertholdt came between them and (Y/N) walked away frustrated.

He walked out of the wallway and outside of the building. He sat on the ground and leaned his back on the wall. He felt a slight breeze and heard some horses. He saw Levi and his squad riding with Eren. They turned into the gate and through it. They stopped and Levi saw (Y/N). His squad tied up the horses and got off of them. His squad walked into the building and Levi walked up to (Y/N) with Eren.

"What're you sitting on the ground for," Eren asked.

"I'm thinking,"

"Jeez no need to be so cold,"

"Sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound like that,"

"Did you get an official scout horse yet?" Levi asked. (Y/N) stood up and looked at him.

"No sir,"

"You're getting one today,"

"Okay," (Y/N) said.

Levi's squad came back out and got on their horses. (Y/N) got on Eren's horse and they all rode off, all of their capes flowed behind them. They rode for a few minutes along the road and came across the stables. They turned into the stables and Levi said.

"Eren drop him off, pick your horse and meet up with Erwin back at his office,"

(Y/N) jumped off of Erens horse and he watched as they rode away. He looked at the stables and looked at all the horses. All of them were simple colors, black, brown, tan and chestnut. His eyes landed a white horse. However, on its face, snout and nose had red hair. It reminded him of the warhammer titans' features. Red face and white skin. He went to the lead rancher and pointed out that horse. The rancher took him to the horse and put a lead and found a saddle for him. Sooner or later he started to ride out of the stables. The horse's footsteps were powerful and he eventually got to the base. He tied up his new horse and went to Erwin's office. He knocked on the door and heard Erwin say.

"Come in,"

(Y/N) opened the door and saw Miche standing behind Erwin, he was looking over Erwins shoulders.

"Levi said you wanted to see me?"

"Yes, I assume you got a horse,"

"I did,"

"That's great, what I wanted to ask you was about the team I assigned you to create, did you pick them?"

"I did, Pieck Finger, Elias Heathheim, Reia Reuter, Armin Arlert, Jean Kirstein and Connie Springer,"

"If they all accept the task and join the scouts, you'll have your team,"

Nightfall

"Today you will choose which regiment to join, the reason I am on this stage is to convince you to join the Survey Corps. I am the Survey Corps Commander, Erwin Smith. The king has granted me the ability to overlook and run all Survey Corps activity. I will warn, in the recent titan attack on Trost, that is every excursion we take, I'm sure nothing else in your life came close to that day. Even if you are cadets you experienced true sacrifice. As a result you now know the true terror of the titans. However, while it's true we suffered great loss in the attack, the human race has pushed forward to victory for the first time. By now everyone is aware of the existence of Eren Yeager, through his actions and all of yours, the titans were stopped at Trost, we have gained understanding of the true nature of the titans. I can't go into much detail about Eren, but believe me, he's proven himself as an ally who's willing to lay his life on the line. And we know in the basement of his old house in Shiganshina, there are answers about the titans that even he doesn't have. If we can get to his basement, we may find clues that will lead us to victory against the titans."

(Y/N) looked at the Commander with wide eyes.

'He's letting out information like that to the public, what is he thinking?'

"And yet, if we are to perform a full investigation of that basement, we first need to take back wall Maria. In other words, our aim is still the same. Now that the gate in Trost is no longer accessible, we have no choice but to take the long way around from Karanes district. The path that took one of our battalions four years to create is lost. During those four years we lost 90% of the Survey Corps. Even in the best case, sending another battalion to wall Maria, would mean five times the casualties and 20 years of work. Those are not realistic numbers."

"The Survey Corps is always looking for talented individuals. Since many are killed, we suffer from a chronic shortage of personnel. I won't hide it, those of you who join the Survey Corps will help with an expedition beyond wall Rose in a month. A supply route needs to be put in place as soon as possible. I believe the death rate for new recruits going beyond the walls is 50%. Those of you still willing to put your lives on the line, remain here, let me reiterate, the majority of those who stay here and join the Survey Corps, will likely die. Ask yourselves if you really have it in you to sacrifice your life for humanity's survival. That's all...Those of you who wish to join other branches may leave."

"Commander don't you think you were too threatening,"

"No,"

(Y/N) watched as many of the cadets turned away. As he heard of people that stayed thinned he saw that Annie had left. They have a plan without him and Pieck. He saw there were twenty one people left.

"If you were told to die, could you do it?" He waited and continued. "I see...Everyone of you looks good. VERY WELL! I WELCOME THE NEWEST MEMBERS OF THE SURVEY CORPS! THIS IS MY REAL SALUTE! DEVOTE YOUR HEARTS TO THE CAUSE!"

Everyone saluted back with passion. They had joined the Survey Corps.
