Colbys' POV

After lining hands with April with a cut made by my mother on them, the ceremony ended and we all went on a run with April leading.

Later she went on a run with Lydia and Kira before they went home, and finally at night I was able to see what my mark looked like. It was like a tribal drawing of a wolf howling with a crescent moon behind it, it was resting against her left collarbone and my right one perfectly.

It has been a week since that day, and each day her connection with the pack members seems more crystal clear. While I have to go to the pack house everyday to work, she goes out to meet the pack members who stick around instead of leaving for work, like the house moms and their pups.

She sometimes join me in my office after lunch, and I teach her a bit of what I have to do and what she will have to do if something bad ever happens.

It was another one of these days, April was sitting in front of me as I did some paper work when Brennen mind-linked us.

-Guys, the little boy is waking up.-

I looked up at April, she looked anxious.

We made our way to the hospital, bumping into Sam on the way, and the three of us took our path to the boys' room. When we entered, the boy was on the bed, being checked by a nurse, and Brennen was beside him.

"Alpha, luna, beta." She bowed in greeting.
"How is he?" Sam asked.
"His blood levels are still a bit high, but his broken bones and cuts are all healed. We will need him to stay for an overnight examination just to be sure that nothing is wrong. If everything goes well, he will be discharged in the morning." The boy was looking at me scared, almost terrified.
"Hi. I'm alpha Cole. What's your name?" I asked with a step forward, just for the boy to sit up and try to go back, as if to put more distance between us.

I stopped and looked back to April. She was worried, I could feel it through the bond, but she was still smiling, trying to hide it.

"Hey there, no need to be scared, no one here is going to hurt you." She walked slowly towards him and sat beside him when he didn't show resistance, her presence seemed to calm him. "My name is April, what are you called?" She gave him a warm smile.
"I-I-I'm" He coughed.
"Oh here, you must be thirsty." Brennen tried giving him a glass of water, but he looked at it and shook his head violently.
"There is nothing in it, I promise, look." April took the glass from Brennen's hand and took a sip. "See? Nothing happened to me." She gave the cup to the boy, who after a few seconds of staring between my mate and the cup, took it and gulped it down.

"T-Thank you" He stuttered in a weak voice. April smiled and grabbed a jar of water from his bed side table and poured another glass for him, which he also finished in seconds. "M-m-my name is Luke." Her smile grew bigger.
"Nice to meet you Luke. I like your accent." He did have a really strong accent, I'm guessing European. He gave her a shy smile as he lightly shook her hand. "This is Colby, my mate, and Sam and Brennen, our friends. Brennen was the one who has been taking care of you."

He looked at Brennen first, smile dropping, and when he looked towards me and Sam, there was only fear in his eyes.

"Hi Luke, I see you're scared, and I understand how all of this must be overwhelming for you. But I swear that you don't have to fear us." Sam said looking him in the eyes with a soft smile. He looked at April and she nodded softly.
"H-Hello alpha, hello beta." He bowed his head, almost straining his neck.
"No need to hurt yourself, you can stand straight." I said and he lifted his head, but still wouldn't look me in the eye. "Luke, I know you just woke up, but we have to ask you a few questions, okay?" He nodded.
"How old are you Luke?" Brennen was the one to ask, his voice was soft.
"I turned 14 a few weeks ago."
