A/N to all my Common Ground readers I decided to use the same girl name.

Alexus's POV
I pushed my annoying strands of brown dull hair behind my back hoping to keep them out of my eyes but unfortunately not succeeding. I groan and put my novel down and grabbing a hair tie from the bathroom.

I sigh gathering all my hair into a ponytail and letting it fall hitting my back. I wasn't really happy with my hair... or my eyes... or my complexion... or really anything about me. I let my bangs hang loose then head back to my book.

"Alexus!" I hear my Granny call from downstairs. "You want some lunch?"
"Sure Granny. Be right there."

Let's see... what can I say about my grandma? Well first off when I was seven my father died in a car accident. My mother was traumatized and fell into a depression and started doing drugs. My grandma, who was the mother to my mother, didn't find it right that my mother took care of me so she got my mother help and took me under her wing. Her husband died not much before my dad did, that probably helped with my mother's depression.

I call my mom every so often but it just ends up me listening to her ramble on about how hard life is. I eventually just block her out and go back to my book.

When I sit at the breakfast bar my grandma hands me a plate with a sandwich and some chips. "Thanks." I give a small smile and pick up my sandwich.
"You excited for summer?" She asks me which I shrug to. School always gave me something to do and to be honest, it wasn't bad. I don't get how other kids could hate it.

I don't love it but I don't hate it. I was always good at academics but not so much on the social part. Whenever someone talked to me my stomach just started to twist and made me feel like I might throw up.
"I guess." I finally respond taking a bite out of the sandwich.

"You know the neighbors, The Powers, their nephew is coming over for the summer. You might want to try and befriend him." I swallow and shake my head
"Gran, I can't even talk to the people I've known for the past three years. I most likely won't be able to talk to this guy." I explain.

"Oh come on. He's coming tomorrow. Will you at least try to say hi?" She pleads making me feel slightly guilty.
"I guess. But don't expect me to do much more." The Powers were a nice couple. I could talk to them easily at how inviting they were. I got along more with adults than with kids my age.

"I never asked you too." She smiles. I wasn't very anxious to met this kid.
