I walked along the dirt road into the forest Lachlan by my side silent. He was usually smiling or trying to talk but not now. I hope he didn't take my inconvenience too seriously.

"We're here." I explain stepping into the clearing. It wasn't anything special but this place was special to me. In the middle of the forest on the edge of town was a small clearing trees circling the area. It was hard to find but I had memorized the path.

The trees opened at the top so at night your could stargaze or in the morning or afternoon you could watch the clouds if there were any.
"How'd you find this?" He ask astonished curling the area.

Flashback

"When will you stop being so mean to me?!" My mother cries out to my father.
"When you start taking some responsibility!" He screams back making tears slowly pool in my eyes.

"Stop it. Stop yelling. Stop it all." My mother cries sobbing.
"What? Do you want me to leave?" He ask. I hear nothing else besides the door slamming shut.

This happened a lot , but this time it was different. I breathe in deeply looking out my window seeing my dad drive away quickly. I rush downstairs and try to comfort my crying mother. "a- are you okay?" I ask a few tears dropping from my red eyes.

"Stop it. Stop it all. Leave. Leave me here just go." She whimpers not bothering to lift her head to see it was me. I guess she didn't hear my dad leaving, but unfortunately my seven-year-old self didn't know that.

I ran out the door to the edge of town and into the woods. I visited to woods a lot but I never went too deep because my mom or dad would tell me to come back inside. We lived near the woods but my grandma lived all the across town.

I journeyed deeper and deeper my feet slipping under me sometimes. I wouldn't let the tears fall out of my eyes as I ran avoiding the tall pine and oak trees. I then came across the clearing.

Flashback end

"You okay?" He asks snapping me out of my thoughts. I then notice my wet hot cheeks.
"Oh ya- ya I'm fine. Just a bad memory."
"Oh." Worry laces his tone then he drops the subject. I sit on the dirt and lay down looking up at the clouds.
"Come on. We can find shapes in the clouds. that's one of my favorite things t do or come at night and stargaze." I pat the patch of dirt beside me and he lays down looking up.

"Good thing I didn't wear my good shirt." He jokes making me crack a grin.

That moment my heart fluttered a bit more off the ground and it has in awhile and I knew this moment was special and would stick with me forever.
