Ch.13
“So where are we going?” I asked as Holden opened the passenger side door of his car for me to get in.
What a gentlemen…
“It’s a surprise.” Holden said with a mischievous grin on his face and I inwardly groaned. There was no way I was able to handle another one of Holden Kane’s surprises.
He must of saw the expression on my face as he jumped in the driver’s seat because he grabbed hold of my hand.
“Don’t worry, this surprise is a good one.”
I tried to portray a friendly and slightly excited smile but, I couldn’t. I was nervous and scared.
Yes, Holden seems like he has changed since our childhood but, do people really change?
“It better be.” I finally said and Holden started the car and pulled away from my house.
“So you almost crashed into my car the first day of school.” Holden stated smirking at me and I ran a hand through my golden hair.
I knew that was coming.
“First off you almost crashed into me and second of all there was no crash to even be upset about!” I exclaimed and Holden only let out a deep chuckle.
“I know. I just like messing with you.”
Jerk.
“You were really afraid that I was going to find out though right?” Holden asked looking over at me again and I let out a deep breath not wanting to admit the obvious.
“Sorta. After all I’ve seen you mad remember?”
Holden let out another laugh. “Fair enough. But I’m not that demented anymore.”
“Demented. That’s a good description of childhood you.” I joked and Holden nodded.
“Okay, I deserved that but, this will make up for it.” He gripped the steering wheel tighter and grinned wider and I was seriously starting to wonder where he was taking me.
After another five minutes of small talk we pulled up to what looked like a carnival and I looked over at Holden questioningly.
He got out and as I examined where we were he opened the passenger side door to let me out.
There was a large banner next to the entrance that read, North Harbor’s 32nd Leaves of Fall Festival.
“Did you forget about this when you moved to Miami?!” Holden asked as he gripped hold of my hand yanking me towards the entrance.
How could I forget the Leaves of Fall festival I went to every year as a child?
More importantly how could I forget what Holden Kane did to me at the Leaves of Fall festival when I was in sixth grade?
Sixth grade was the last time Holden really picked on me. Once 7th grade hit he started becoming interested in girls and football and started to leave me alone.
It also helped that after the incident at the Leaves of Fall festival my mom talked the school into Holden and I never having a class together again.
So I guess I could thank Holden’s terrible antics for finally relieving me of him.
Even though what he did 6 years ago was the definition of evil.
Six years earlier
“I can’t believe our parents let us go the festival without them this year. I feel so mature.” Kayla exclaimed to me and Lucas as we walked into the entrance of the festival.
