Onyx's POV

My breath was ragged and deep, chest heaving with every breath. My vision was blinded but the sound of his heart beat beside me kept me grounded.

My legs shivered at the contact with the concrete flooring and the light tapping of a leaking pipe beats somewhere in the back corner. Although it's pitted-patter feels as though it's brushing my ear.

The sudden sound of ruff footfalls echos ahead and I suck in a breath. Knox must have heard me because his fingers gently trace small circles on my palm.

The footsteps become louder and louder as I feel his presence before me.

I feel two feet shuffle away from me as the echoing footsteps get closer. I hear the harsh rustle of Knox's bag being yanked off his head and feel a hand reaching to grab mine.

My head stings with pain as a couple hairs are taken along with my blindfold.

"Nice work. How did you manage to capture them?" I hear his deep voice rumble.

"Found the two of them smooching in the alley way," Ace replies with the most horrendous country accent. He better not blow it for us because of his dumbass improvising.

"Ha. I knew something was going on with them," the man - known as Lorenzo - said smugly.

"It was almost too easy!" Ace encourages with a chuckle - he did not. I resist the urge to facepalm myself. The idiot had slapped his knee to add to his so called 'old town farmer' character.

Lorenzo looks slightly uncomfortable at his cheeriness but nevertheless signals with two fingers to a couple of men behind him.

A wind blows the hairs from my face as a huge duffle bag is thrown before me.

"Well, here's the money. Now get lost," he waves off Ace.

"Actually. . . about that," Ace drags on, now clearly missing his accent.

I feel the bonds at my arms loosen and I dare a side glance to Knox, luckily no one seems to notice as he nods his head in signal.

We immediately spring up, ready for action. I see two figures appear from opposite corners as Val comes from the left throwing me my knife, I just barely catch the handle and avoid the sharp blade.

To the right of me Knox catches the gun thrown by Mace with one hand, adding a little spin for effect.

Lorenzo's shock doesn't last long as his men spring into action.

The echoing sound of the safety of a gun being unlocked dominos around the room.

As the twins, Knox, Val and I create a circle surrounding Lorenzo and his group I hear the sound of fabric dragging and spot a small member of the Vipers pulling away the bag of money. His eyes widen as he notices my gaze and his breath quivers in fear.

He looks quite young - 12, 13 maybe - I signal to the group to leave him be. Who knows how he got here, maybe he's just like me.

All I know is that he definitely needs the money more than any of us. I send him a small smile and he looks at me gratefully- but not without a hint of shock- and he runs.

I turn my attention back to the task at hand as I prepare to lunge at a guard in front of me.

Before I get the chance I hear a laugh from behind Lorenzo and down the hall. What in the hell? Suddenly slow claps follow the laughter, it sounds almost maniacal.

The source of the sound slowly emerges from the shadow, but not enough to see his entire figure.

"Well I must say, this turned out a lot different to what I thought," the figure says and something about his voice sounds familiar.
