The warm morning light crept through the curtains, with its gentle rays beaming down on Kate's exposed breasts as if to say, "look at me, look at these fresh hickeys!" Kate never minded hickeys, but she might care about these... especially in summer. God damn it Alexandria, why? I could smell coffee brewing and bacon crackling on the frying pan. My blonde ex turned over to me with a sleepy grin on her angled face, greeting me, "Hiya there Lexi."

Returning her smile, I gently replied, "Goodmorning, beautiful."

Am I even allowed to say that? It's a casual hook-up... Jeez, why is this so hard?

Getting up out of bed, I handed my ex-girlfriend a shirt out of my bag and clean underwear, I know she didn't plan on sleeping over. "You can shower first if you want, I'm gonna go see what's for breakfast," I announced as I walked over to the door.

Jayde and Mateo were dancing in the kitchen to old 2010's music, like the elderly married couple they were. Why, if I knew I didn't have a chance, I didn't give up on the idea, I don't know.

"Hello Alexandria, did you use protection?" my best friend said in a mockingly stern way.

Mateo howled with laughter, clutching his chiseled fucking diamond abs, eventually composing himself enough to chime in with a "Yeah, how was it? Y'all were loud enough."

Oh, so they could hear us... Damn, well at least we sounded good.

"Hey hey leave me alone, I'm just trying to live up my junior year ok?" I said with fake appall. Jayde's face of repressed laughter was enough to make me burst out laughing.

"Well live it up silently ok? I don't need to know the specifics of 'oh fuck yes right there keep going' now do I?" Jayde asked rhetorically.

Gasping I spluttered out my rebuttal, "Excuse me, I have heard way worse come from you Jaydie."

Breaking up the oncoming "who's louder in bed talk" Mateo announced that breakfast was "indeed ready." As if on cue, Kate walked in with a towel wrapped around her hair, wearing my Taylor Swift Red tour shirt as a dress. "Hey guys," my ex-girlfriend said with a wave as she sat down at the island.

Making small talk, we all conversed about what the day ahead held for each of us. Katelyn had to go drive her younger siblings home from sleepovers, Jayde had a town hall meeting on behalf of the students of Rockland High School. Which left Mateo and me free to an extent. Mateo was drafted to show the new-ish girl, Morgan, around, while I was to go home and help my mother and Tyler clear out the attic, which I obviously did not want to do. Tight spaces, Tyler, and I do not mix.

"Hey, uh, Mateo? Is there any way I could join you in showing Morgan around?" I asked, "I really don't want to go home." Without hesitation, Mateo agreed and we were off to go pick the new girl up an hour later.

Turning the winding roads of Maine, we eventually made it to Morgan's house, or rather her Grandpa's house. The house's red brick walls and ancient-looking pavilion looked as if they hadn't been cleaned nor touched in years. As we pulled up in the roundabout driveway, I noticed an older version of Morgan standing in the doorway. Turning around, the middle-aged woman called over her shoulder, probably calling for Morgan to come down.

Walking down to the car, the new girl waved. Waving back, Mateo and I exchanged looks of reassurance with each other. "Hey guys," a sweet voice to the side of me said. God, she looks beautiful. Morgan was wearing a tight tank top, tan shorts, and gold jewelry, putting my big tee and sweatpants to shame. She looked flawless but yet so effortless. Greeting her, I got out of the car, hopping into the back to give her the passenger seat. "So where to first?" Morgan's sweet voice said again," I haven't been to Rockland in over 6 years, so things have probably changed." Starting the car, Mateo simply replied, "You"ll see."
