It doesn't take long for the secretary to look up the records regarding a specific Suzanne Armstrong who died roughly 18 years ago. Soon enough, we were redirected to the call center specializing in tragic death, to yet another secretary, of a different department.
"So the purpose of this visit would be simply to obtain some form of closure with the deceased?"
I nod, before remembering that they can't hear me. "Yes. My soul flame would like to be able to see his mother 1 last time... I'm sure that wouldn't break any of the rules, would it?"
They made a noncommittal noise on the other end of the phone & I tensed. I wanted to be able to give Dakota this 1 thing, but if I couldn't- "Yes, that can be arranged. As long as it is strictly a 1 time visit, & not after that, it should be fine. You would be restricted to a maximum of 2 hours with the deceased, after which point the both of you must be back at the portal location in order to enter back into the world of the living. Would that work with you?"
I look toward Dakota again, his eyes bright but sad. "Would you like to be able to see your mom, for up to 2 hours, if only once at some point?" I whisper gently, thumb stroking over his cheek, wanting to make this process as painless as possible. His eyes widen & he nods fervently. I put the phone up to my face again. "Yes, that would work."
I could hear some typing on the other end, before the secretary asked. "Ok... & what time would work best for you? We have a... 2 o'clock this Friday or... not another one until Monday at 5..."
"Just 1 moment, I would like to consult my beloved..."
"Alright, sir, just tell me when you are ready."
I turn to Dakota again, smiling apologetically. "& would 2 Friday or 5 Monday work best for you?" I ask gently, wincing at how inconsiderate I must seem. To be asking practical questions so quickly when he's just spilled his heart & soul out to me just moments before...
He smiles sadly. "2 Friday? The sooner the better..."
I nod my head understandingly, smiling warmly, trying to be as gentle as possible. "Ok, thank you, love." I put the phone back up to my face. "Friday at 2 would work best for us."
I hear the secretary typing away. "Alright, sir!" They say far too cheerily. "Friday at 2 then! 1 of my colleagues will bring up a limo for you at... Your current address information is up to date, correct?"
"Yes... I'm living in the same place I always have..."
"Alright then! They'll pick you up at 1:30 & take you right there! Have a lovely day, sir!"
"You too..." I end the call, a bit shocked. They are so cheery for a department dealing with death... But then again, it is customer service...
Hope you guys liked the chapter :D. Idk what else to say so... I guess I'll see you guys later then :'D
