Two weeks later
It was Friday afternoon and I was just sitting in a history lesson, bored with the teacher's stories about the historical period we were currently discussing. It was the last lesson today. From the last bench, I stared blankly at the board behind the teacher.
The vibrations coming from the back pocket of my pants pulled me out of this state. Stealthily I took out my phone looking at the screen I saw that I got a message. It was a message from Ruth. I only read "call me" when I heard my name coming out of the teacher's mouth.
"Caitlin put the phone away, unless you want me to take it from you" I looked at the teacher who was staring at me from across the room.
"Sorry" I said shyly, tucking the phone into my back pocket. The teacher just nodded and then continued the lessons and I started to think what my aunt wanted to tell me.
***
After class as I walked outside the school building I read all of Ruth's message. It was not long, she just wrote: "call me as soon as you finish the lessons I have something important to tell you"
Without thinking too long I clicked on my aunt's contact and pressed the green receiver. I put the phone to my ear and waited for my aunt to answer meanwhile I started walking towards the house where I was currently living. After a few rings I heard Ruth's voice.
"You're quick" she laughed.
"What's the big deal?"
"I have good news I got a job" she said with clear excitement in her voice.
"It's great" I said.
I was glad to hear that news. Was fate finally smiling at me?
"So what's this job? Some musician or band?" I asked curious.
"It's a band. I know the mother of one of the boys" she explained "we met ages ago at one of the photography courses and we became friends, we recently bumped into each other when I was shopping and she told me that the band that her son is in is becoming really big so they are looking for additional staff to work with them, including new photographers"
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" I asked.
"That was just an offer, she just told me about it and say that maybe I'll get this job. I didn't want to give you empty hopes if it didn't work out" she explained "but as you can see it ended successfully"
This is the best news I have received in the last few years.
"If you want you can meet them" Ruth said suddenly.
"So they're here in Australia now?"
"They take a break to be with their families a bit and then they go to finish their tour" she said "you will get along for sure. If I remember correctly you are almost the same age"
"I'll think about it" I said happily.
"When you'll know let me know"
"Sure but for now I have to go" I said as I walked onto the street where I lived.
"Okay.." when I was about to say goodbye to my aunt and hang up she screamed quickly into the phone.
"Oh, I almost forgot.. If you want to know something more about them they are called 5 Seconds of Summer you can check them on the internet"
"Thanks but I don't think I gonna do that" I said quickly.
"Okay then bye" she said and hung up when I was at the door of the house.
I wasn't interested in getting to know them I mean it would be good to have a good relationship with employers but I was more interested in studying photography than them. I wanted to be professional and hoped they would do the same.
Ruth said we were about the same age, which made me a bit sad because I know how boys my age behave and I was counting on more experienced musicians but well I wasn't going to complain just a few hours ago I wasn't sure what will be and now there is a chance for change.
